Symbols for controls, indicators and tell-tales of motor vehicles 1 Scope This standard specifies the basic requirements for the symbols and positions of the controls, indicators and tell-tales AND the tell-tale display colors of motor vehicles. This standard applies to category M and N motor vehicles. This standard does not apply to the controls, indicators and tell-tales which are specially provided for electric vehicles. 2 Normative references The following documents are essential to the application of this document. For the dated documents, only the versions with the dates indicated are applicable to this document; for the undated documents, only the latest version (including all the amendments) are applicable to this Standard. GB/T 4782 Road vehicles - Controls, indicators and tell-tales - Vocabulary ISO 2575 Road vehicles - Symbols for controls, indicators and tell-tales 3 Terms and definitions The terms and definitions as defined in GB/T 4782 and the following terms and definitions are applicable to this document. 3.1 Control It refers to a component that is manually operated by the driver to change the working condition or function of the vehicle or a device of the vehicle. 3.2 Indicator 4.1.1 If the vehicle is equipped with the controls, indicators and tell-tales as listed in 5.1, the corresponding symbols are mandatory AND shall be identified. The symbols shall comply with all the provisions of 5.1. 4.1.2 If the vehicle is equipped with the controls, indicators and tell-tales as listed in 5.2, the corresponding symbols are non-mandatory AND may be identified. If identified, the symbols shall comply with all the provisions of 5.2. 4.1.3 If the vehicle is equipped with other controls, indicators and tell-tales than those listed in Chapter 5, the corresponding symbols may not be identified. However, if identified, it is recommended to use the corresponding symbols in ISO 2575; if using the self-designed symbols, they shall comply with the principles of Appendix B. 4.1.4 If it is necessary to make the meaning of the symbol more clear and specific, it is allowed to use additional information such as words, numbers and letters based on the symbols as listed in Chapter 5, AND the design of such additional information shall follow the principles of Chapter 5. 4.1.5 The use of similar signs shall comply with the relevant provisions of 4.1.1 ~ 4.1.4. 4.1.6 The basic graphics of the symbols shall comply with the provisions of Appendix A. 4.1.7 The symbols shall, as relative to the background color, be clearly discernible and permanent. 4.1.8 The multifunctional controls shall have the corresponding symbols of their functions. 4.1.9 The combination of the controls, indicators and tell-tales of same functions may share one symbol. 4.1.10 The graphic texts for other purposes on the vehicle shall not be confused with the symbols as specified in this standard. 4.1.11 All the symbols for the controls, indicators and tell-tales as identified on the vehicles in accordance with the provisions of 5.1 and 5.2 shall be stated in the vehicle instruction manual. 4.1.12 The symbols as specified in this standard are allowed to be modified under the following conditions; during modification, it shall follow the principles of Appendix B to avoid changing the essential elements of the symbols OR affecting the identification at the time of use. - ADJUST such details as the line thickness, the gap, the graphic proportion, the arc curvature, and advance angle; - COLOR the symbol contours; ADJUST the dotted & solid nature of symbol; MAKE coloring (except for those explicitly prohibited in the standard). 4.1.13 The common space for displaying a variety of information shall comply with the following requirements. - The tell-tales and indicators within the common space shall provide relevant information when the functional conditions indicated by them are activated; - When two or more tell-tales are activated, the information shall be automatically repeated in sequence OR selected by the driver; - The tell-tales for the brake system fault, headlamp, turn signal lights and seat belt alarm shall not be displayed in the same common space; - If one of the tell-tales for the brake system fault, headlamp, turn signal lights and the seat belt alarm is set to be displayed in a common space, then when it is displayed, this tell-tale shall replace all other information in this common space; - The tell-tales for the brake system fault, headlamp, turn signal lights and seat belt alarm shall not be automatically canceled OR manually canceled by the driver; - Unless otherwise specified in a specific (other) standard, when the tell-tales are in the common space, the colors of the corresponding tell-tales are not specified. 4.2 Color of tell-tale symbols 4.2.1 As for the tell-tale symbols given in 5.1 and 5.2 of this standard, except in accordance with the colors specified in their respective provisions, it is allowed to use the other colors as specified in 4.2.2 to express the different working conditions or meanings based on different functional requirements. 4.2.2 Meaning of color. - Red. endangering personal safety, or easy to cause serious damage to equipment or system, emergency or urgent; 5.1.9 The turn signal light controls and tell-tales symbols are as shown in Figure 10. The tell-tale display color shall be green. The two arrows of the symbol shall be used separately, AND the inside of the graphic outline of the symbol shall be blank or solid.
