Foreword
This Standard identically adopts ISO 1176.1990 “Road vehicle - Masses -
Vocabulary and codes”.
After it identically adopts ISO 1176.1990, it makes China's road vehicle quality
terminology in line with international standards, especially after the introduction
of the quality code, each quality term has a clear definition and code, easy to
manage, and facilitate scientific and technical exchanges.
Since the implementation of this Standard, GB 3730.2-92 “Road vehicle -
Masses - Vocabulary and codes” is repealed simultaneously.
Based on ISO 1176.1990, this Standard restores the terminology relating to
axle load and the term “maximum static load acting on the tractor with semi-
trailer”, added the term of maximum allowable static load acting on the hitch,
deleted the terms of "specific power" and "specific torque".
This Standard was proposed by Ministry of Machinery Industry of the People's
Republic of China.
This Standard shall be under the jurisdiction of National Technical Committee
on Automobiles of Standardization Administration of China.
The drafting organization of this Standard. China Automotive Technology and
Research Center.

Road vehicle - Masses - Vocabulary and codes
1 Scope
This Standard defines terms and codes for masses of road vehicles as defined
in ISO 3833, with the exclusions indicated below, where these road vehicles
are in a condition as first manufactured; they may be complete road vehicles or
otherwise. The codes are intended to be used for the exchange of vehicle data
and electronic processing.
The following vehicle types are excluded.
- specially designed vehicles for uses other than the transport of passengers
and/or goods;
- motorcycles and mopeds, which are covered by ISO 6726;
- towed caravans, which are covered by ISO 7237.
This Standard does not specify measuring procedures, units to be used or
tolerances.
2 Normative references
The following standards contain the provisions which, through reference in this
Standard, constitute the provisions of this Standard. For dated references,
subsequent amendments (excluding corrections) or revisions do not apply to
this Standard. However, the parties who enter into agreement based on this
Standard are encouraged to investigate whether the latest versions of these
documents are applicable.

3 General
3.1 These definitions facilitate useful comparison of masses under identical
loading conditions; they have been drafted taking into account their possible
interest to administrative authorities, manufacturers and users.
