Foreword
This standard is drafted according to the rules specified in GB/T 1.1-2009.
This standard replaces GB/T 8630-2002 Textiles - Determination of dimensional change in
washing and drying. Compared with GB/T 8630-2002, the main technical changes of this
Standard are as follows.
— Modify the recommended quantity of test-specimens (see 6.2, 6.2 in Edition 2002);
— Annex “Confidence limit of average dimensional change of textile” is deleted (see
Annex A in Edition 2002).
Using Re-drafting Method, this standard modifies and adopts ISO 5077.2007
Determination of Textile Dimensional Change in Washing and Drying (in English).
Main differences between this standard and ISO 5077.2007 are as follows.
— Foreword of international standard is deleted;
— International Standards in normative references are replaced by the corresponding
national standards.
— Code D of dimensional change in calculation formula is added (see 8.1).
— Average value of dimensional change is changed FROM “rounded to 0.5%” TO
“rounded to 0.1%”.
This standard was proposed by China National Textile And Apparel Council.
This standard shall be under the jurisdiction of Technical Sub-committee of Basic
Standard of the National Technical Committee on Textile Standardization (SAC/TC
209/SC 1).
Drafting organizations of this standard. Standardization Institute for Textile Industry,
Shanghai Textile Industry Institute of Technical Supervision, and Zhongshan Entry-Exit
Inspection and Quarantine.

Textiles - Determination of dimensional change in
washing and drying
1 Scope
This standard specifies a method to determine the dimensional change of textiles after
washing and drying.
This standard is applicable to textile fabrics, clothing, and other textile products.
In the case of textile articles or deformable materials, it is necessary to consider various
factors to explain the test results.

when they are quoted herein. For the dated documents so quoted, all the modifications
(including all corrections) or revisions made thereafter shall be applicable to this
document.
GB/T 6529 Textiles - Standard atmospheres for conditioning and testing (GB/T
6529-2008, ISO 139.2005 MOD)
GB/T 8628 Textiles - Domestic washing and drying procedures for textile testing
(GB/T 8628-2001, ISO 3759.2011, MOD)
GB/T 8629 Textiles - Preparation, marking and measuring of fabric specimens and
garments in tests for determination of dimensional change (GB/T 8629-2001, eqv ISO
6330.200)
3 Principle
The specimen is conditioned in the specified standard atmosphere and measured before
subjection to the appropriate washing and drying procedures. After drying, conditioning
and re-measuring of the specimen, the changes in dimension are calculated.
4 Apparatus and reagents
Use apparatus and reagents as specified in GB/T 8628 and GB/T 8629.
