Foreword
This standard is drafted according to the rules specified in GB/T 1.1-2009.
This standard replaces GB/T 8628-2001 Textiles - Preparation, marking and measuring of
fabric specimens and garments in tests for determination of dimensional change.
Compared with GB/T 8628-2001, the main technical changes of this Standard are as
follows.
— The statement of application scope is revised (see Clause 1; Clause 1 in
Edition-2001).
— Reference to GB/T 8170-1987 is deleted. References to GB/T 4666, GB/T 8629,
GB/T8631, GB/T 19981, ISO 15797 and FZ/T 20021 are added (see Clause 2, 6.2,
Clause 9; Clause 2 and Clause 10 in Edition-2001).
— The equipment generating normal atmosphere is deleted (see 4.4 in Edition-2001).
— Sampling requirements for knitted fabric are added (see 6.1).
— Pre-conditioning for specimens is deleted. Relevant marker is adjusted to be after
conditioning (see 6.3 and 6.4; 6.4 in Edition-2001).
— Operational steps for cloth hanging and conditioning are added (see 7.1.4).
— Pants measurement positions are added (see 7.2.2).
— Statement about treatment is added in the test report (see Clause 11).
— Annex “measurement of bra, knitting socks, hats and gloves” is deleted (see Annex
B in Edition-2001).
Using re-drafting method, this standard modifies and adopts ISO 3759.2011 Textiles -
Preparation, Marking and Measuring of Fabric Specimens and Garments in Tests for
Determination of Dimensional Change (English version).
The main differences between this standard and ISO 3759. 2011 are as follows.
— Table of Contents and Foreword of international standard are deleted;
— International standards in normative reference are replaced with corresponding
national standards or industrial standards (see Clause 2).
— Add pants measurement positions (see 7.2.2).
— Add code D of dimensional change-rate in calculation formula and result rounding
requirements (see Clause 10).
Textiles - Preparation, marking and measuring of fabric
specimens and garments in tests for determination of
dimensional change
1 Scope
This Standard specifies a method for the preparation, marking and measuring of textile
fabrics, garments and fabric assemblies for use in tests for assessing dimensional change
after a specified treatment, e.g. washing, dry cleaning, soaking in water and steaming,
following the procedures in GB/T 8629, GB/T 19981, GB/T 8631, ISO 15797 and FZ/T
20021.
This Standard is applicable to woven and knitted fabrics, and made-up textile articles. The
procedures are not applicable to certain upholstery coverings.
2 Normative references

when they are quoted herein. For the dated documents so quoted, all the modifications
(including all corrections) or revisions made thereafter shall be applicable to this
document.

d) width at waist;
e) width at bottom of leg;
f) width of leg halfway between crotch and bottom of leg, i.e. knee (omit if leg length is
short);
g) Thigh. across measure along the direction perpendicular to the trouser length from
the bottom of crotch to the side edge of trouser.
h) Trouser length. along side seam, measure from waist upper-mouth to the
foot-mouth, smoothly and vertically.
7.2.3 Boiler suits, coveralls, bib and brace overalls, combinations and one-piece
swimsuits
Combine the jacket and trouser categories and, where applicable, replace the measuring
positions given in 7.2.1 as follows.
c) length from centre-front neck to crotch seam or end of opening.
d) length from centre-back neck to crotch.
7.2.4 Skirts
The measuring positions shall be as follows.
a) length from waist to bottom hem, excluding the waistband if present, taken at
centre-front and centre-back;
b) width at waistband;
c) width at not less than three approximately equidistant points below the top edge, or
below the bottom edge of the waistband, if present.
8 Flat made-up textile articles
Follow the procedure described in 7.1, using the following measuring positions.
a) overall length;
b) overall width.
NOTE 1. Heavy drapes can stretch during hanging and shrink during washing. Methods for assessing
dimensional change do not, in general, include dimensional changes occurring under tension.
