Foreword
This Standard equivalently adopts ISO 5985:2002 Animal feeding stuffs -
Determination of ash insoluble in hydrochloric acid (English version).
For convenience of use, this Standard makes the following editorial changes:
-- Change the expression “this International Standard” into “this Standard”;
-- Use the decimal point “.” to replace “,” which is used as a decimal point;
-- Delete the foreword of the international standard;
-- Add a foreword to the national standard;
-- Change “animal feeding stuffs” to “feeding stuffs”;
-- Replace “ISO 6497:2002” with “GB/T 14699.1”;
-- Replace “ISO 6498:1998” with “GB/T 20195”;
-- Replace “ISO 5984” with “GB/T 6438”;
-- Replace the expression of “procedure A” and “procedure B” in the international

Animal feeding stuffs - Determination of ash insoluble in
hydrochloric acid
1 Scope
This Standard specifies the determination method of ash insoluble in hydrochloric acid.
The applicable treatment method depends on the nature of the sample.
a) The burning treatment method is applicable to organic single feed and compound
feed (except those mentioned in acid treatment method).
b) The acid treatment method is applicable to minerals, mineral mixtures and
compound feeds whose ash insoluble in hydrochloric acid measured by the
burning treatment method is greater than 1%.
2 Normative references

to this Standard. For dated references, all subsequent amendments (not including errata
content) or revisions do not apply to this standard. However, parties to agreements that
are based on this Standard are encouraged to study whether the latest versions of these

3 Terms and definitions
The following terms and definitions are applicable to this Standard.
3.1 Ash insoluble in hydrochloric acid
The part of ash that is insoluble in dilute hydrochloric acid under the conditions
specified in this Standard.
