3 Terms and definitions
The following terms and definitions apply to this document.
3.1
Sediment acoustic properties acousticpropertiesinmarinesediments
The propagation velocity and acoustic attenuation coefficient of longitudinal wave acoustic waves in sediments.
3.2
In-situ measurement
Place the instrument on the seabed, the surrounding environment has not changed, and the temperature, pressure, and geotechnical conditions of the sediment on the seabed are kept to the greatest extent.
A method of directly measuring the characteristics of sediments to avoid disturbances caused by sediments during sampling and handling of sediment samples.
3.3
Sediment velocity soundvelocityinsediments
Vs(f)
The propagation speed of longitudinal wave in sediment corresponding to frequency f.
Note. The unit of sound velocity of sediment is expressed in meters per second (m/s).
3.4
Soundvelocityinseawater
Vw(f)
The propagation speed of longitudinal waves in seawater corresponding to frequency f.
Note. The unit of sound velocity of seawater is expressed in meters per second (m/s).
