Fiber Reinforced Plastic Composites Determination of interlaminar shear strength and modulus by double beam method

1 Scope

This document specifies the determination of interlaminar shear strength and interlaminar shear modulus of fiber-reinforced plastic composites by the double beam method (DBS). This document applies to glass fiber or carbon fiber reinforced thermoset plastic composites that can undergo acceptable interlaminar shear failure. This document applies only to laminates with symmetrical and balanced plies to avoid bending/torsional or bending/tensile coupling of test results Effects of deformation (see 6.2). This document is particularly applicable to unidirectional laminates in which the fibers are arranged along the length (axial) direction of the specimen. For laminates with specific plies, matrices and fibers (e.g. natural fibers), evaluation of delamination failure is required to determine suitability for this document.
