Design Guide for Multi-effect Distillation Seawater Desalination System1 ScopeThis standard provides the terms and definitions, basic requirements, sea water intake and pretreatment, multi-effect distillation equipment
Guidance on design, product water storage facilities, concentrated brine discharge, cooling sea water discharge and wastewater treatment.
This standard applies to the design of newly built or expanded multi-effect distillation seawater desalination systems.2 Normative referencesThe following documents are indispensable for the application of this document. For dated reference documents, only the dated version applies to this document.

HY/T 203.2-2016 Seawater Utilization Terminology Part 2.Seawater Desalination Technology3 Terms and definitionsThe following terms and definitions defined in HY/T 203.2-2016 apply to this document. For ease of use, the following is repeated
Some terms and definitions in HY/T 203.2-2016.
3.1
Desalination
The process of removing salt from seawater and producing fresh water.
[HY/T 203.2-2016, definition 2.6]
3.2
Distillation and desalination
When an aqueous solution containing salts is heated to boiling, the water evaporates into steam, while the salts remain in the solution, and the steam is condensed to obtain fresh water.
[HY/T 203.2-2016, definition 3.1]
3.3
Multi-effect distillation
It is composed of multiple evaporation and condensation units in series, in which steam is condensed on one side of the heat transfer tube to produce fresh water, and the heat released at the same time makes the heat transfer tube another
The seawater on one side evaporates to generate secondary steam, and enters the next unit to repeat the above-mentioned evaporation and condensation process of seawater.
3.4
Multi-effect distillation seawater desalination system
The process flow of seawater desalination using multi-effect distillation.
Note. It consists of seawater intake, pretreatment, multi-effect distillation, product water storage, concentrated brine discharge, cooling seawater discharge, wastewater treatment, etc.
3.5
Raw sea water
Untreated seawater obtained from seawater sources.
3.6
Material sea water
It is used for distilling desalinated seawater in a multi-effect distillation unit.
