Summary This standard specifies the objectives and functional requirements of fire and explosion control and reduction measures for offshore production facilities. This standard applies to fixed offshore structures in the oil and gas industry and floating production, storage and unloading systems. This standard does not apply to the mobile offshore installations and underwater installations defined in this standard, but certain principles contained in this standard can be used as guidelines. This standard is based on the risk assessment of offshore installations to select fire and explosion control and reduction measures. The methods and related recommended practices used in this type of assessment vary with the complexity of the production process and facility, the type of facility (open or closed), the staffing and the relevant environmental conditions of the operating area.
