Fall protection descent device
1.Scope
This document specifies the classification, grading and marking, technical requirements, inspection rules, labeling, and manufacturer-provided information for descent control devices.
The corresponding testing methods were developed.
This document applies to automatic and manual slow-descent devices used vertically.
This document does not apply to descent devices used in building fire escape or explosive atmospheres.
2 Normative references
The contents of the following documents, through normative references within the text, constitute essential provisions of this document. Dated citations are not included.
For references to documents, only the version corresponding to that date applies to this document; for undated references, the latest version (including all amendments) applies.

GB 23469 Fall Protection Connectors
GB 24544 Fall Protection Differential Controller
3.Terms and Definitions
The following terms and definitions apply to this document.
3.1
Descender devices
A device that allows users to descend slowly from a height to a reference surface (or ground) for high-altitude operations, either independently or with the assistance of others, at a certain speed.
Note 1.Divided into automatic descent device and manual descent device.
Note 2.The descent device consists of a descent rope and a speed limiting component.
3.2
A descent control device that does not require manual intervention from the user during the descent process.
3.3
During the descent, the user needs to manually control the speed limiting component to control the descent speed.
3.4
Panic locking element
An emergency braking device integrated with the descent control system, used when speed is out of control or when it is necessary to terminate the descent.
3.5
Descentline
It is connected to the speed limiting component of the descent device, and adjusts the descent speed in conjunction with the speed limiting component during the descent, bearing the descent load.
Note. Made of fiber rope, webbing or wire rope.
3.6
descent energy
The product of the descent load, gravitational acceleration, single descent height, and number of descents for the descent device.
Note. The indicators for measuring the number of descents and reusability of the descent device are calculated according to formula (1).
W = m × g × h × n (1)
In the formula.
W --- Energy decrease, measured in joules (J);
m --- Descent load (including the total mass of personnel, carried tools, and equipment), in kilograms (kg);
g --- acceleration due to gravity, 9.81, unit is meters per second squared (m/s²);
h --- Single descent height, in meters (m);
n --- the number of times...
3.7
Minimum rated load
The minimum mass at which the descent device, provided by the manufacturer, can be activated under normal operating conditions.
Note. The mass of personnel or equipment is expressed in kilograms (kg).
3.8
Maximum rated load
The maximum mass that the descent device provided by the manufacturer can withstand under normal operating conditions.
Note. The total mass of personnel and their tools and equipment is expressed in kilograms (kg).
3.9
The calculated value is obtained by subtracting three times the standard deviation from the average value of the descent rope breaking strength test.
Note. Quantities are expressed in kilonewtons (kN).
3.10
elongation
The percentage of the elongation of a descent rope compared to its original length when tested under specified conditions.
3.11
The longest period between the date of production and the date the product meets the manufacturer's specified rejection criteria.
Note. The mandatory scrapping period is recommended to be no more than 10 years.
4.Classification, Grading and Labeling
4.1 Classification of Descending Devices
The automatic descent device is Type I, and the manual descent device is Type II.
4.2 Classification of descent control devices
Descending devices are classified into the following levels according to their descent energy.
---Level A. Energy drop W ≥ 7.5 × 10⁶ J;
---Level B. Energy drop 1.5 × 10⁶ J ≤ W < 7.5 × 10⁶ J;
---Level C. Energy drop 0.5 × 10⁶ J ≤ W < 1.5 × 10⁶ J;
---Class D. For single use only; descent energy depends on maximum descent height and maximum rated load.
4.3 Marking of the descent device
The markings on the descent device consist of "classification/descent energy - maximum descent height per attempt".
