... 17ForewordThis standard was drafted in accordance with the rules given in GB/T 1.1-2009.
This standard replaces GB/T 6820-1992 “Industrial synthesis of ethanol”. As
compared with GB/T 6820-1992, the main technical changes are as follows.
- MODIFY the standard name to “Ethanol for industrial use”;
- MODIFY the scope of application (see Chapter 1; Chapter 1 of the 1992
edition);
- ADD the 99.5% ethanol type (see Chapter 3);
- The index of 95.0% ethanol type is divided into three grades. superior, first-
grade, qualified products. ADD four items. isopropyl alcohol, n-propanol,
acetate, sulfuric acid test chroma. MODIFY the original fusel oil item into a
C4 + C5 alcohol item. MODIFY the first-class chromaticity product from
No.10 to No.5.MODIFY the volume fraction of the ethanol content of first-
class product from 96.0% to 95.0%. MODIFY the acid content of the
superior product from 0.0020% to 10 mg/L; MODIFY the acid content of the
first-class product from 0.0025% to 20 mg/L. For the aldehyde content.
MODIFY it from 0.0020% to 10 mg/L for superior product and from 0.0040%
to 15 mg/L for the first-class product. For the methanol content. MODIFY it
from 0.02% to 100 mg/L for superior product and from 0.03% to 150 mg/L
for the first-class product. For the oxidation time of potassium
permanganate. MODIFY it from 20 min to 25 min for superior product and
from 15 min to 20 min for the first-class product. For the evaporative residue.
MODIFY it from 0.0025% to 20 mg/L for superior product and from 0.0030%
to 25 mg/L for the first-class product (see Table 1; Table 1 of the 1992
edition);
- ADD the gas chromatography test methods for methanol and C4 + C5
alcohol item (see 5.8);
- ADD the type inspection items. evaporative residues, sulfuric acid test
chroma, water miscibility tests were determined as type inspection items
(see 6.1).
This standard was proposed by the China Petroleum and Chemical Industry
Federation.
This standard shall be under the jurisdiction of the National Chemical
Standardization Technical Committee Organic Chemical Branch (SAC/TC
63/SC 2).

4.2 Ethanol for industrial use shall meet the requirements of Table 1.5 Test methodsWarning. Some test procedures specified in the test method may lead to

5.1 General provisions
The reagents and water used in this standard refer to analytical pure and grade
III water as specified in GB/T 6682 unless otherwise specified.
Standard titration solutions, impurity standard solutions, preparations and
products used in the analysis were prepared in accordance with the provisions
of GB/T 601, GB/T 602, GB/T 603.
5.7 Determination of aldehyde content
Determine it according to the method specified in Chapter 8 of GB/T 394.2-
2008.Use the iodine method as the arbitration method.
5.8 Determination of methanol, isopropanol, n-propanol, acetate, C4 + C5
alcohol content
5.8.1 Summary of method
Use gas chromatography, under the selected chromatographic conditions, to
separate the specimen by a chromatographic column. Use a hydrogen flame
ionization detector to detect it. Use the internal standard method, external
standard method, or corrected area normalization method to quantify it. Among
them, use the internal standard method as the arbitration method.
5.8.2 Reagents and solutions
5.8.2.4 Nitrogen. The volume fraction is not less than 99.95%; it is dried and
purified by silica gel and molecular sieve.
5.8.2.5 Hydrogen. The volume fraction is not less than 99.9%; it is dried and
purified by silica gel and molecular sieve.
5.8.2.6 Air. It is dried and purified by silica gel and molecular sieve.
5.8.3 Instruments and equipment
5.8.3.1 Gas chromatograph. It adopts a hydrogen flame ionization detector and
is equipped with a capillary chromatographic column. The sensitivity and
stability of the whole machine comply with the relevant requirements in GB/T
9722.
5.8.3.2 Micro-syringe. 10 μL.
5.9 Determination of oxidation time of potassium permanganate
Determine it according to the method as specified in Chapter 7 of GB/T 394.2-
2008.
5.10 Determination of evaporation residue
Determine it according to GB/T 6324.2.
Take the arithmetic mean of the two parallel determination results as the
determination result. The difference between the two parallel determination
results is not greater than 2 mg/L.
5.11 Determination of chroma in sulfuric acid test
Determine it according to the method specified in Chapter 6 of GB/T 394.2-
2008.6 Inspection rules6.1 Inspection is divided into exit-factory inspection and type inspection. The
appearance and the chromaticity, ethanol, acid, aldehyde, methanol,
isopropanol, n-propanol, acetate, C4 + C5 alcohol, oxidation time of potassium
permanganate and moisture in Table 1 are the exit-factory inspection items and
shall be inspected batch by batch. In the case of normal production, type
inspection shall be carried out at least once a month. Type inspection shall also
be carried out in one of the following cases.
6.2 Under the condition of unchanged raw materials and processes, the actual
batch of continuous production of the product is a batch, but the time for several
production batches to constitute an inspection batch usually does not exceed 1

6.3 Sampling of ethanol for industrial use shall be conducted in accordance with
GB/T 3723, GB/T 6678, GB/T 6680.The total amount of samples taken shall

factory products meets the requirements of this standard and is accompanied
by a quality certificate in a certain format, which includes.
7.2 Packaging
Ethanol for industrial use shall be stored in a clean, dry steel tanker or other
container that can guarantee quality.
7.3 Storage
Ethanol for industrial use shall be stored in a cool, dry, ventilated environment
which is isolated from heat sources and fires.8 Safety8.1 Warning of danger
Ethanol for industrial use is an irritating, flammable liquid. The melting point is -
114.3 °C; the boiling point is 78.4 °C; the flash point is 12 °C; the ignition
temperature is 363 °C. Its vapor and air may form explosive mixture; the
explosion limit is 3.3% (volume fraction) ~ 19.0% (volume fraction).
8.2 Safety measures
8.2.1 It shall avoid ethanol for industrial use to be contact with the skin. If
splashed on the skin or eyes, it shall be quickly rinsed with a lot of water, and
then seek medical treatment immediately.
8.2.2 Fire extinguishing agent. Anti-solvent foam, dry powder, carbon dioxide.
