Foreword
This Standard is drafted according to the rules specified in GB/T 1.1-2009.
This Standard replaces B/T 521-2003 "Test Method of Measuring Peripheral
Dimensions for Tyres".
The main differences between this Standard and GB/T 521-2003 are as follows.
- Add the requirement of "corresponding rim is installed when the tubeless tyre
and tube-tyre are tested" (see 5.2);
- "Standard rim" is changed into "test rim" (see 5.2);
- Add 3 requirements relating to height measurement of motor tyre tread wear
indicators (see 6.4);
- Add the requirements of flatten mode of flap (see 6.6).
This Standard was proposed by China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Association.
This Standard shall be under the jurisdiction of National Technical Committee 19 on
Tyres and Rims of Standardization Administration of China (SAC/TC 19).
Chief drafting organizations of this Standard. Triangle Tyre Co., Ltd., Hangzhou
Zhongce Rubber Co., Ltd., Sailun Co., Ltd., Beijing Research and Design Institute of
Rubber Industry, Shandong Linglong Tyre Co., Ltd., Shanghai Shuangqian Group Co.,
Ltd., and Xiamen Zhengxin Rubber Industry Co., Ltd.
Chief drafting staffs of this Standard. Liang Jinzhao, Chen Guohua, Wang Xiaoju,
Wang Kesheng, Xu Lihong, Chen Shaomei, Li Bowei, and Luo Zhaoyu.
The previous editions replaced by this Standard are as follows.
- GB/T 521-1965;
- GB/T 521-1984;
- GB/T 521-1993;
- GB/T 521-2003.
Test Method of
Measuring Peripheral Dimensions for Tyres
1. Scope
This Standard specifies the measuring tools and their accuracy requirements,
measurement conditions, measuring methods, data calculation and processing and
test report of overall circumference of tyre (cover tyre, inner tube and flap).
This Standard is applicable to all new passenger car tyres, truck tires, agricultural
tyres, earth-mover tyres, industrial vehicle pneumatic tyres and motorcycle tyres.
2. Normative References
The following document is essential for the application of this Standard. For dated
references, only the edition cited applies. For undated references, the latest edition
(including any amendments) is applicable to this document.
GB/T 6326 Tyre Terms and Definitions
3. Terms and Definitions
For the purpose of this Standard, the terms and definitions defined in GB/T 6326
apply.
4. Measuring Tools and Their Accuracy Requirements
4.1 Tyre pressure gauge. 10kPa.
4.2 Steel ruler and metallic tape (without radian). 1 mm.
4.3 Vernier caliper. 0.1 mm.
4.4 Tread pattern depth gauge. 0.02 mm.
4.5 Thickness gauge. 0.01 mm.
4.6 Caliper.
L - the overall circumference of tyre, mm;
π - the circumference ratio, 3.14 for it.
The result of overall diameter data of tyre shall be rounded off to integer.
7.2 Width of tire section, depth of tyre groove , width of flatting flap and
thickness of flap
Arithmetic mean of all measuring points shall be taken as the width of tyre section.
And width of flatting flap, the unit is mm, rounded off to integer.
Arithmetic mean of all measuring points shall be taken as the width of tyre groove.
And width of flap, the unit is mm, rounded off to one decimal point.
7.3 Height of tread wear indicators
Height of tread wear indicators shall be calculated according to Formula (2).
DPR = DP — HP (2)
Where,
DPR - the height of tread wear indicators, mm;
DP - the depth of groove, mm;
Hp - the height of tread wear indicators away tread, mm.
The arithmetic mean of all points shall be taken and rounded off to one decimal point.
7.4 Overall circumference and flat width of inner tube
For the measured value of overall circumference and flat width of inner tube, its unit is
mm and it shall be rounded off to integer.
Arithmetic mean of the values measured at 4 points shall be taken as the flat width,
rounded off to integer.
8 Test Report
Test report shall include the following contents.
a) Manufacturer's name, brand, tyre size and production No.;
b) Tire load index or maximum load or ply rating, test air pressure;
c) Overall circumference, overall diameter and section width of tyre;
d) Groove depth and height of tread wear indicators of tyre;
e) Thickness of flap and width of flatting flap;
f) Overall circumference and flat width of inner tube;
g) Measuring rim;
h) Test conditions and testing data.
