This Part together with GB/T 2910.6 replaced the Chapter 7 of GB/T 2910-1997 Textile
– Binary Fiber Mixtures – Quantitative Chemical Analysis; compared with the Chapter
7 of GB/T 2910-1997, the differences are as follows.

Technical Committee for Standardization of Textile (SAC/TC 209/SC 1).

Using Formic Acid and Zinc Chloride)
1 Scope
This Part of GB/T 2910 specifies using formic acid and zinc chloride method to
determine, after removing the non-fibrous substances, the fiber contents in the binary
mixtures of viscose, certain type of cupro, modal, lyocell, flax, and ramie.
This Part is not applicable to the mixture the mixtures that can’t be dissolved
completely due to the viscose, certain type of cupro, model, modal, and lyocell
containing the durable finishing agents and reactive dyes which can’t be completely
removed.
Safety warning. the substances or methods used in this Part may be hazardous
to human health and environment if used improperly.
2 Normative References

amendments (excluding corrigendum) or revisions do not apply to this Part, however,
parties who reach an agreement based on this Part are encouraged to study if the

GB/T 2910.1 Textiles - Quantitative Chemical Analysis - Part 1.General Principles
of Testing (GB/T 2910.1-2009, ISO 1833-1.2006, IDT)
3 Principles
Use formic acid and zinc chloride reagents to dissolve and remove the viscose, certain
type of cupro, model, modal, and lyocell from the mixture with known dry mass; collect
the residues, clean, dry and weigh;
4 Reagents
Use the reagents specified in GB/T 2910.1 as well as 4.1 and 4.2 in this Part.
4.1 Formic acid/zinc chloride solution
20g of anhydrous zinc chloride and 68g of anhydrous formic acid were added water to
prepare 100g of formic acid/zinc chloride solution.
5 Apparatus
Use the apparatus specified in GB/T 2910.1 and 5.1 in this Part.
5.1 Conical flask with stopper with capacity no less than 200mL.
6 Test Procedures
It shall be performed as per the procedures stipulated in GB/T 2910.1.40°C Method
and 70°C Method can be selected as required.
6.1 40°C Method
Place the specimen quickly into the conical flask containing the formic acid/zinc
chloride solution with a preheated temperature of 40°C±2°C; add 100mL of formic
acid/zinc chloride solution to each gram of the specimen (4.1), tighten the cap. Shake
the conical flask, dip the specimen, stand for 2.5h at 40°C±2°C; shake once every
45min, totally shake twice.
6.2 70°C Method
Place the specimen quickly into the conical flask containing the formic acid/zinc
chloride solution with a preheated temperature of 70°C±2°C; add 100mL of formic
acid/zinc chloride solution to each gram of the specimen (4.1), tighten the cap. Shake
the conical flask, dip the specimen, stand for 20min±1min at 70°C±2°C, during which
shake twice.
7 Result Calculation and Expression
The result calculation and expression shall conform to the provisions of GB/T 2910.1.
Value d of flax is 1.07; Value d of ramie is 1.00.
8 Precision
For the homogeneous mixture of textile materials, the confidence limit of this Method
shall not exceed ±1 at the 95% confidence level.
