Foreword
This standard was drafted in accordance with the rules given in GB/T 1.1-2009.
This standard replaces GB/T 2440-2001 “Urea”. As compared with GB/T 2440-
2001, the main technical changes are as follows.
- RE-CLASSIFY the grades;
- ADJUST the technical indicators such as total nitrogen, biuret, and so on;
- MODIFY the total nitrogen from the dry basis to the wet basis;
- ADD that for the agricultural (fertilizer) urea products, it shall be marked on
the packaging container with a warning message “biuret contained”.
This standard was proposed by the China Petroleum and Chemical Industry
Federation.
This standard shall be under the jurisdiction of the National Fertilizer and Soil
Conditioning Standardization Technical Committee (SAC/TC 105).

Urea
1 Scope
This standard specifies the terms and definitions, requirements, test methods,
inspection rules, marking, packaging, transportation and storage of urea.
This standard applies to agricultural (fertilizer) urea and industrial urea which
are produced by the synthesis of ammonia and carbon dioxide. For the sulfur-
coated urea, urea for AUS32, urea for raw materials with national standards or
industry standards, it shall implement the corresponding standards.

Relative molecular mass. 60.055 (according to the 2013 International Relative
Atomic Mass Table).
2 Normative references

3 Terms and definitions
The following terms and definitions apply to this document.
3.1
Size guide number; SGN
Average particle size of the materials between the two sieves according to
the mass fraction more than 50%, which reflects the size of the dominant
particle size.
3.2
Uniformity index; UI
The uniformity index, which reflects the uniformity of the particle size.
3.3
Trace additive
An additive which has a mass fraction of not more than 1.0% in the urea
product.
4 Requirements
4.1 Appearance. Granular or crystalline, without mechanical impurities.
4.2 Agricultural (fertilizer) urea shall meet the requirements of Table 1,
meanwhile it shall also meet the indicated values.
5 Test methods
5.1 Appearance
It is determined by visual inspection.
5.2 Total nitrogen content
It is determined according to the provisions of GB/T 2441.1, calculated
according to formula (1).
5.3 Biuret content
It is performed according to the provisions of GB/T 2441.2.
5.4 Moisture
It is performed according to the provisions of GB/T 2441.3.
5.8 Water insoluble content
It is performed according to the provisions of GB/T 2441.6.
5.9 Granularity
It is performed according to the provisions of GB/T 2441.7.
6 Inspection rules
6.1 Inspection categories and inspection items
Product inspection includes exit-factory inspection and type inspection. The
exit-factory inspection items include total nitrogen, biuret and moisture. The
type inspection includes all items to be measured in the following cases.
6.2 Group-batch
The products are inspected in batches, the production volume per shift or day
is considered as a batch, the maximum batch size is 1500 t.
6.3 Sampling plan
6.3.1 Bagged products
When the number of bags is less than 512, follow the Table 3 to determine the
minimum number of sampling bags. When the number of bags is more than
512, use the formula (2) to calculate the minimum number of sampling bags. If
there is a decimal number, it is rounded off to an integer.
6.5 Determination of results
6.5.1 The qualification judgment of the product’s quality indicators in this
standard shall use the “comparative methods of rounding-off values” in GB/T
8170-2008.
6.5.3 When performing the exit-factory inspection, if one indicator of the
inspection results does not meet the requirements of this standard, it shall
retake the samples from double number of packaging bags for inspection. In
the re-inspection results, even though there is one indicator failing to comply
with this standard, this batch of products is judged to be disqualified.
7 Marking
7.1 For the agricultural (fertilizer) urea, it shall be marked on the packaging
container with the name and address (residence) of manufacturer, name of
product, net content, grade, range of particle size (or SGN and UI), this standard
number, other contents to be marked as required by laws and regulations.
7.3 For the industrial urea, it shall be marked on the packaging container with
the name and address (residence) of manufacturer, name of product, batch
number or date of manufacture, net product content, grade, this standard
number, other contents to be marked as required by laws and regulations.
8 Packaging, transportation and storage
8.1 Agricultural (fertilizer) urea products are packaged by the materials in
accordance with the provisions of GB/T 8569, the packaging specifications are
50.0 kg, 40.0 kg, 25.0 kg, 10.0 kg.
8.2 When there are additives in the products within the specified net content
range of each bag, they shall be mixed evenly with the original materials. It shall
not place it in the package bag in the form of small packages.
8.3 According to the agreement between the supplier and the purchaser, the
urea product can be in bulk or use the container bag (which shall meet the
requirements of GB/T 10454) as a packaging container.
8.4 The transportation and handling tools of the product shall be clean, flat and
free of sharp objects, to avoid piercing and scratching the package.
