This standard was modified in relation to ISO 16124. 2004 "Steel Wire Road - Dimensions
and Tolerances" (English Edition).
Compared with ISO 16124. 2004, technical differences in this standard are as follows.
- Only the wire rods with circular cross-section were selected and the nominal diameter
range was enlarged to 60 mm;
- Technical indexes with nominal diameter of 50 mm~60 mm were added;
- Disk mass requirements were added.
These technical differences have already been marked with perpendicular single line on
the margin of relevant clauses.
This standard replaces GB/T 14981-2004 "Dimensions, Shape, Mass and Tolerances for
Hot-rolled Wire Rods"; compared with GB/T 14981-2004, the main technical differences
are as follows.
- Application scope of wire rod diameter is enlarged (nominal diameter scope is
enlarged from original 5 mm~40 mm to 5 mm ~60 mm);
- Corresponding technical requirements on 40 mm ~60 mm were added in Table 1;
- Proper adjustment was made on out-of-roundness of Grade A accuracy in Table 1 to
be kept consistent with international standard.
- The term of agreement in Section 2.4 was deleted;
- Only original Group II was maintained among mass groups.
This standard was proposed by China Iron and Steel Association.
This standard shall be under the jurisdiction of National Technical Committee on Iron and
Steel of Standardization Administration of China.

Dimension, Shape, Mass and Tolerance for Hot-rolled
Round Wire Rod
1 Scope
This standard specifies dimension, shape, mass and requirements of hot-rolled wire
rods, unless otherwise specified in product standard, they shall meet requirements of
corresponding product standards.
This standard is applicable to steel round wire rods with nominal diameter of 5 mm~60
2 Dimension, Shape and Tolerance
2.1 Nominal diameter and nominal cross-sectional area of wire rods are listed in
Table 1.
2.2 Diameter tolerance of wire rods shall meet the requirements of corresponding
grade accuracy in Table 1 and the out-of-roundness shall be less than or equal to 80%
of corresponding grade of diameter tolerance.
2.3 Accuracy grade shall be indicated in corresponding product standard or contract
and any accuracy grade which is not indicated shall be implemented according to
Grade A accuracy.
2.4 As required by the Purchaser, upon the agreement between the Supplier and the
Purchaser, other dimensions and tolerances may be adopted, but tolerances shall be
not greater than specified value of corresponding specification in Table 1.
