Foreword
All technical contents of this Standard are mandatory.
This Standard corresponds to ECE R7 Rev 4 "Uniform Provisions Concerning the
Certification of Front and Rear Position (Side) Lamps, Stop-lamps and End-outline
Marker Lamps for Motor Vehicles (except Motor Cycles) and Their Trailers". The
consistent degree is not equivalent. The main differences are as follows.
— Delete management provisions;
— Delete Annex "minimum requirement for conformity of production control
procedures;
— Add inspection rules.
Major technical requirements of this Standard such as general specifications,
photometric characteristics, light color and test procedure are consistent with those in
ECE R7 Rev 4.
This Standard replaces GB 5920-1999 "Photometric Characteristics of Front and Rear
Position Lamps, End-outline Marker Lamps and Stop Lamps for Motor Vehicles and
Their Trailers". Compared with the previous-edition, the main changes are as follows.
— Modify "normative standards" in Chapter 2 of the previous-edition to be
"normative reference" of this edition;
— Modify "definition" of Chapter 3 of the previous-edition to be "terms and
definitions" of this edition;
— Modify the test method that adopts photometric characteristics of ligament lamp
in 5.8.2 of the previous-edition;
— Modify judgment principle of different types in 6.1 of the previous-edition to be
"different types of the device" in Chapter 4 of this edition;
— Modify inspection rules of Chapter 6 of previous-edition;
— Add test requirements for Type S3 stop lamps installed at vehicle;
— Add test requirements for lamps with multiple device positions;
— Modify test requirements for lamps with multiple illuminants;
— Add test requirements for decay time of output luminous-intensity of stop-lamps
with 2-levels of luminous-intensity;
Photometric Characteristics of Front and Rear Position
Lamps, End-outline Marker Lamps and Stop Lamps for
Motor Vehicles and their Trailers
1 Scope
This Standard specifies technical specifications, test procedure, and inspection rules
of photometric characteristics of front and rear position lamps, end-outline marker
lamps and stop-lamps for motor vehicles and their trailers.
This Standard is applicable to all kinds of front and rear position lamps, end-outline
marker lamps, and stop-lamps for motor vehicles and their trailers of category M, N
and O. In this Standard, all kinds of signal lamps above are also called devices.
2 Normative References
The following normative documents contain provisions which, through reference in
this Standard, constitute provisions of this Standard. For dated reference, subsequent
amendments or revisions of these publications do not apply. However, all parties
coming to an agreement according to this Standard are encouraged to study whether
the latest editions of these documents are applicable. For undated references, the
latest edition of the normative document referred to applies.

Devices for Motor Vehicles and their Trailers
GB 15766.1 Filament Lamps for Road Vehicles-Dimensional, Electrical and
Luminous Requirements (GB 15766.1-2000 idt IEC 60809.1995)

Use in Lamp on Motor Vehicles and Their Trailers
3 Terms and Definitions
The terms and definitions that are established in GB 4785 are applicable to this
Standard.
4 Different Types of Devices
The devices that are different in the following aspects.
a) The trademark name or trademark;
b) The characteristics of the light system (levels of luminous-intensity, light
distribution angles, category of filament lamp, light source module, etc.)
c) For stop-lamps with 2-levels of luminous-intensity, the system that is used to
reduce luminous-intensity at night.
A change of the color of the filament lamp or the color of any filter does not constitute
a change of type.
5 Requirements
5.1 General provisions
5.1.1 The devices must be so designed and constructed that in normal conditions of
use, and notwithstanding the vibrations to which they may be subjected in such use,
they still satisfy the operation requirements and comply with the provisions of this
Standard.
5.1.2 The front position lamps and rear position lamps may be combined into
grouped lamps, combined lamps and reciprocally incorporated lamps; and also may
be used as end-outline marker lamps.
5.1.3 If ligament lamps are used, they shall meet the requirements of GB 15766.1 or
ECE R37.
5.1.4 The design of the light source module(s) shall be such that even in darkness
the light source module(s) can be fitted in no other position, but the correct one; the
light source module(s) shall prevent mis-operation.
5.1.5 Nominal voltage of non-replaceable light source devices are 6V, 12V or 24V;
their photoelectric properties shall be agreed by the manufacturer and the users.
5.1.6 Position lamps, which are reciprocally incorporated with another function,
using a common light source, and designed to operate permanently with an additional
system to regulate the luminous-intensity, are permitted. However, in the case of rear
position lamp reciprocally incorporated with a stop-lamp, the device shall either. be a
part of a multiple light source arrangement, or be intended for use in a vehicle
equipped with a failure monitoring system for that function.
5.2 Photometric characteristics
sources fails, then the minimum luminous-intensity value in the axis of reference of
the lamp is allowed to be 50% of original limit-value;
5.2.4.3 When all light sources are lighted on, for single-lamp that is not marked with
"D", the maximum luminous-intensity is allowed to exceed the specified value of
single-lamp. However, it does not allowed to exceed the specified value that
corresponds to two or more lamps in Table 1.
5.2.5 When a stop-lamp has 2-levels of luminous-intensity, it needs to respectively
measure the times, when 2-levels of luminous-intensity are respectively on the
reference axis, BETWEEN the power supply is switched on AND it is attenuated to
90 % of the initial value. The time measured for the night condition of use shall not
exceed that measured for the day condition of use.
5.2.6 If the front position lamp incorporates one or more infrared radiation
generators, then this front position lamp shall both meet the photometric
characteristics and chroma requirements, when the infrared radiation generator is
operated or not operated.
5.2.7 When the device is installed on the vehicle, there are more than one position
or there are multiple different positions within a field, the photometric characteristics
shall be measure and repeated at all positions; or, within the field, at the extreme
positions specified by the manufacturer.
5.2.8 For a category S3 stop-lamp that is mounted inside the vehicle, if there are
multiple installation cases, then it shall combine with all corresponding
vehicle-window’s sample plates to repeatedly and respectively conduct the
measurement of photometric characteristics.
5.2.9 For a device of which the mounting height is not higher than 750 mm, the
measurement points and field that are located at “h-h” downward / below 5° are not
require to be measured.
6 Light Color
6.1 Front position lamps and front end-outline marker lamps shall emit white light;
rear end-outline marker lamps and stop-lamps shall emit red light.
6.2 Chroma characteristic of all kinds of light color shall meet the requirements of
GB 4785; beyond the visible range, the light color shall not have obvious changes.
7 Test Methods
7.1 Test darkroom, devices and equipment shall meet the requirements of GB 4599.
7.7.2 If the additional system is not part of the device, then the tests shall be
performed at the rated secondary design voltage. It may require the manufacturer to
provide the additional system that regulates the luminous-intensity.
7.8 For any lamp device that is not equipped with filament, the luminous-intensi...
