Foreword
All technical contents of this Standard are mandatory.
This Standard was drafted in accordance with the rules given in GB/T 1.1-2009.
This Standard replaces GB 20074-2006 "External projections from motorcycles
and mopeds". Compared with GB 20074-2006, the main technical changes in
this Standard are as follows.
- modified the application scope of the standard;
- modified the normative references;
- deleted the definitions of 3.1~3.5, 3.7~3.9 in GB 20074-2006;
- added the definitions of "contact angle α, stem, plate, R point, group 1
parts, group 2 parts" (see 3.3~3.7 in this Standard);
- deleted the content of Clause 4 in GB 20074-2006;
- adjusted A.1 of Annex A in GB 20074-2006 as Clause 4 of this Standard
and modified;
- adjusted A.2, A.4, A.5 of Annex A in GB 20074-2006 as 5.1 of this
Standard; specified the requirements for external projections for two-
wheeled motorcycle, and added technical requirements;
- modified the test procedures in A.3.2 of GB 20074-2006 (see A.3 Test
procedures of this Standard);
- modified the content of A.3.1.2 of GB 20074-2006 (see A.2 Test conditions
of this Standard);
- added "5.2 Technical requirements for external projections for tricycle" in
this Standard;
- modified Figure A.1 (see Figure 1 of this Standard);
- refined the dimensional requirements for measuring instrument shown in
Figure A.2 (see Figure A.1 of this Standard);
- adjusted A.2.4 of GB 20074-2006 as 5.2.1.2 of this Standard, and
specified the technical requirements;
- added Figure 2 and Figure 4 in this Standard;

External projections for motorcycles and mopeds
1 Scope
This Standard specifies the classification criteria, general requirements, special
requirements and classification test methods of external projections for
motorcycles and mopeds.
This Standard is applicable to motorcycles and mopeds (hereinafter referred to
as the motorcycle).
2 Normative references
The following referenced documents are indispensable for the application of
this document. For dated references, only the edition cited applies. For undated
references, the latest edition of the referenced document (including any
amendments) applies.

3 Terms and definitions
For the purposes of this document, the following terms and definitions apply.
3.1 rear cab bulkhead
the farthest part of the back of the exterior surface of the cab
3.2 contact angle, α
the angle BETWEEN the plane passing through the first contact point of the
test device and the motorcycle shown in Figure A.1 and perpendicular to the
longitudinal center plane of the motorcycle AND the plane passing the second
contact point and the axis of the test device
3.3 stem
circular or approximately circular projection or component with relatively
constant outer diameter, including bolt and screw head, with accessible free
ends
3.4 plate
motorcycle
5.1.1 General technical requirements
5.1.1.1 Motorcycle exterior must not have any sharp parts facing outwards.
Due to factors such as the shape, size, azimuth, and hardness of these
components, it may cause physical injury to pedestrian or driver when a
motorcycle and pedestrian encounter a traffic accident such as collision or
scraping.
5.1.1.2 When used on a road, the design of components that may touch
other's body shall meet the requirements of 5.1.2.
5.1.1.3 External projections made of soft rubber, plastic or covered by these
materials with Shore hardness less than A60 (HA) are considered to meet the
requirements of 5.1.2.
5.1.1.4 If the two-wheeled motorcycle is equipped with a panel for closing or
partially closing the components of the driver, passenger or motorcycle, then
the vehicle manufacturer can choose whether the motorcycle is a special
enclosed part, OR the external projection of the vehicle meets the requirements
of GB 11566. If only the closed part meets the requirements of GB 11566, then
the external projections of the rest shall meet the requirements of 5.1.2. At the
same time, the company must clearly explain the applicable standards of this
part in the corresponding technical documents.
5.1.2 Special technical requirements
5.1.2.1 Requirements for radius of curvature of group 1 parts
5.1.2.1.1 Plate
- The radius of curvature of each corner of the plate shall not be less than
3.0 mm;
- The radius of curvature of the edge of the plate shall not be less than 0.5
mm.
5.1.2.1.2 Stem
- The diameter of stem or similar parts shall not be less than 10 mm;
- The radius of curvature of the end of the stem shall not be less than 2.0
mm.
5.1.2.2 Requirements for radius of curvature of group 2 parts
5.1.2.2.1 Plate
of GB 11566.
5.2.2.2 For the right tricycle that can clearly see the front forks, wheels,
bumpers, fenders, shrouds, trunks and other components, the manufacturer
can choose whether the tricycle meets the requirements of GB 11566 or 5.1.
And the manufacturer shall explain in the corresponding technical documents.
If the motorcycle is equipped with structures or panels for closing or partially
closing the driver, passengers, cargo or certain special parts, such as ceilings,
roof pillars, doors, door handles, windshields, truck lids, cargo platforms or
container, etc., then these components shall meet the requirements of GB
11566.
5.2.2.3 For the right tricycle used for cargo carrying, when it is behind the rear
cab bulkhead or it has no rear cab bulkhead, at all accessible edges at the rear
of the transverse vertical plane passing 500 mm from R point in the rearmost
seat, if the height of protrusion is not less than 1.5 mm, it shall be reversed.
5.2.2.4 In the consistency check, the number plate shall be dismantled. The
space or plane for number plate installation shall meet the requirements.
6 Standard implementation
For newly certified vehicle models, it shall be implemented from the date of
implementation of this Standard. For the vehicle models on production, it shall
be implemented one year after the date of issuance and implementation of this
Standard.
