Foreword

This standard was drafted in accordance with the rules given in GB/T 1.1-2009. This standard was proposed by the Tianjin Seawater Desalination and Comprehensive Utilization Research Institute of the State Oceanic Administration. This standard is under the jurisdiction of the National Marine Standardization Technical Committee (SAC/TC283). This standard was drafted by the Tianjin Seawater Desalination and Comprehensive Utilization Research Institute of the State Oceanic Administration. The main drafters of this standard. 1 Scope

This standard specifies the method for the determination of seawater alkalinity in the process of seawater utilization. It is a pH potentiometric titration method that indicates the end point of pH change. This standard is applicable to the determination of alkalinity in the range of 0-4mmol/L in seawater, brackish water and brine.

3 Terms and definitions

The following terms and definitions apply to this document. 3.1 Alkalinity The amount of hydrogen ions needed to neutralize weak acid anions in seawater divided by the volume of seawater. [GB/T 15921-2010, definition 3.2.8] 3.2 Phenolphthalein endpointalkalinity Alkalinity measured with phenolphthalein as indicator. Note. Phenolphthalein is an indicator whose end-point pH is about 8.3, and the alkalinity of phenolphthalein is determined by titration to pH=8.3. 3.3 Methylorange endpointalkalinity Alkalinity measured with methyl orange as indicator. Note. Methyl orange is an indicator. The end point of the titration pH is about 4.5.The alkalinity of methyl orange is determined by titration to pH=4.5.

4 Principle

Using acid-base titration. The hydrochloric acid standard titration solution was used as the titrant, and the end point of the titration was judged by the potentiometric value of the pH meter. pH=8.3 At this time, the hydroxide and one-half of the carbonate in the sea water sample were titrated. When pH=4.5, the bicarbonate ion in the seawater sample is Titration.
