1 Scope
This standard specifies the gas chromatography method for the determination of benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and xylene content in stationery products.
This standard is applicable to the content of benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene and xylene in products such as altered stationery, writing stationery, painting paints, adhesive stationery, etc.
Determination.
This standard does not apply to product packaging.

3 Principle
After the sample is prepared into a test sample, it is injected into the gas chromatograph. Benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, xylene (o-xylene, m-xylene and p-xylene)
Benzene) is completely separated from the coexisting substances in the capillary chromatographic column, then measured with a hydrogen flame ionization detector and quantified with an external standard method.
4 Reagents and materials
Unless otherwise specified, the reagents used are all analytically pure, and the water is the first grade water specified in GB/T 6682.
4.1 Carrier gas
Nitrogen or helium, purity ≥99.995%.
4.2 Auxiliary gas (septum purge and makeup gas)
Nitrogen with the same properties as carrier gas.
4.3 Calibration compound
Compounds used for calibration, such as benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, xylene (o-xylene, meta-xylene, and p-xylene); the purity is at least 99%
(Mass fraction) or known concentration.
4.4 Dilution solvent
The solvent used to dilute the sample does not contain any substances that interfere with the test. The purity is at least 99% (mass fraction) or known concentration.
Examples. solvent-based stationery uses ethyl acetate, n-hexane, acetone, etc.; water-based stationery uses methanol, acetonitrile, tetrahydrofuran, etc. Refer to Appendix A for solvent selection.
