This document is in accordance with the provisions of GB/T 1.1-2020 "Guidelines for standardization work Part 1.Structure and drafting rules for standardization documents"

This document replaces GB/T 5974.1-2006 "Ordinary thimbles for wire ropes" and GB/T 5974.2-2006 "Heavy thimbles for wire ropes".
Compared with GB/T 5974.1-2006 and GB/T 5974.2-2006, in addition to structural adjustments and editorial changes, the main technical changes are
as follows.
--Added terms and definitions (see Chapter 3);
--Added the type classification of collars (see 4.1);
--The model designation of ordinary thimbles and heavy thimbles has been changed (see 4.3, 3.2 of GB/T 5974.1-2006 and GB/T 5974.2-
2006, 3.2);

Nominal thimble size
The largest nominal diameter of wire rope for which the thimble is suitable (d).
4 Types and basic dimensions
4.1 Type classification
According to the tensile strength of the wire rope that the wire rope thimble (hereinafter referred to as "thimble") is suitable for, it is divided into ordinary thimble and heavy-duty thimble.
Ordinary thimbles are suitable for steel wire ropes with a tensile strength not exceeding 1 770 MPa, code-named GT.
