Summary This standard specifies the physical layer protocol (PHY), that the higher sub-layer physical layer. FDDI uses optical fiber as a transmission medium between computers and peripheral devices to provide a high-bandwidth (100 Mbit/s) general interconnect. FDDI can be configured to support about 80Mbit/(1O Mbyte/s) sustained transfer rate. It may not meet the response time of all high-speed devices without buffering requirements.
