Summary
This standard specifies the physical layer protocol (PHY), that the higher sub-layer physical layer. FDDI uses optical fiber as a transmission medium between computers and peripheral devices to provide a high-bandwidth (100 Mbit/s) general interconnect. FDDI can be configured to support about 80Mbit/(1O Mbyte/s) sustained transfer rate. It may not meet the response time of all high-speed devices without buffering requirements. Many FDDI stations located in the connection between several kilometers. FDDI is the default value (typically corresponding to 500 stations and 100km double cable) by 1000 and a total length of 200km physical link fiber path calculations.
