3 Terms and definitions
The following terms and definitions apply to this document.

Tsunami
The fierce and extremely harmful waves are formed by long waves caused by submarine earthquakes, volcanic eruptions or underwater collapses and landslides.

A tsunami that is within 100km of the area affected by the devastating effect of the tsunami.

Regional tsunami
A tsunami within 1000km of the area affected by the tsunami from the source of the tsunami.

Remote tsunami
A tsunami whose source is more than 1000km away from the area affected by the tsunami.

Traveltime
The time required for the first wave of a tsunami to propagate from the source of the tsunami to a fixed point on the coast.
