1 Scope
This standard specifies the technical requirements, test methods, packaging and storage requirements of Alpinia katsumadai Hayata.
This standard applies to the quality assessment and trade of cardamom.

3 Product description
Alpinia katsumadai Hayata (product) is a near-dried seed cluster of a plant of the ginger family (Alpinia katsumadai Hayata), with a spherical shape and a diameter of 1.5 cm～
2.7 cm, the surface is brown, and there is a white septum in the middle to divide the seed cluster into 3 petals, each with 22 to 100 seeds, with tight adhesion; slightly light
Slippery, not easy to scatter. The seeds are oval-shaped polyhedrons with a length of 3 mm～5 mm and a diameter of about 3 mm. The outside is covered by light brown membranous arils.
The ridge has a longitudinal groove and a seed umbilicus at one end.
4 Quality requirements
4.1 Taste and smell
Cardamom should have its characteristic aroma, pungent and slightly bitter.
4.2 No mildew, no pests
Grass cardamom must not carry live insects, not to mention mildew or dead insects, naked-eye corpse fragments, rodent residues; if necessary,

4.3 Foreign objects
This standard stipulates that the following substances are foreign objects.
a) All plant substances and husks except nuts and arils;
b) All exotic animals, plants and minerals.
According to GB/T 12729.5, the total amount of foreign matter shall not exceed 2%.
4.4 Chemical indicators
The chemical indicators of the grass cardamom should meet the requirements of Table 4.

6 Inspection method
6.1 The preparation of powder samples for analysis shall be carried out in accordance with the provisions of GB/T 12729.3.
6.2 The determination of moisture content shall be carried out in accordance with the provisions of ISO 939.
6.3 The determination of total ash shall be carried out in accordance with ISO 928.
6.4 The determination of volatile oil shall be carried out in accordance with GB/T 30385.
7 Packaging, marking, storage and transportation
7.1 Packaging
Cardamom should be packaged in a clean and intact container. The packaging material shall not affect the quality of the product and prevent the entry of moisture and volatility.

7.3 Storage
