Foreword
This document is in accordance with the provisions of GB/T 1.1-2020 "Guidelines for standardization work Part 1.Structure and drafting rules for standardization documents"
Drafting.
This document replaces GB/T 4740-1999 "Test Method for Compressive Strength of Ceramic Materials", GB/T 4741-1999 "Test Method for Flexural Strength of Ceramic Materials"
Compared with GB/T 4740-1999 and GB/T 4741-1999, in addition to structural adjustments and editorial changes, the main technical changes are
The following.
--- Changed the scope (see Chapter 1, Chapter 1 of GB/T 4740-1999 and Chapter 1 of GB/T 4741-1999);
--- Changed the requirements for the size of the flexural strength specimens (see 5.2.1, 4.1 of GB/T 4741-1999);
--- Changed the provisions for sample drying in the compressive strength test procedure (see 6.1.1, 5.1 of GB/T 4740-1999);
--- Changed the provisions on the number of discarded specimens for re-testing (see 7.1.3, 7.2.3, 6.2.2 and
6.2.2 of GB/T 4741-1999)

Test methods for strength of ceramic materials
1 Scope
This document describes the method for determining the compressive strength and flexural strength of ceramic materials at room temperature.
This document is applicable to the determination of ceramic materials and their auxiliary materials.
2 Normative references
This document has no normative references.
3 Terms and definitions
The following terms and definitions apply to this document.
3.1
Compressive strength
The maximum load that a material can bear per unit area.
3.2
Bending strength
The maximum stress when the specimen is subjected to static bending force and fails.
Note. It is expressed as the ratio of the bending force applied to the specimen when it is destroyed to the modulus of rupture at the fracture point.
4.Instruments and Equipment
4.1 Compression strength testing machine. The pressure when the sample is fully crushed is between 10% and 90% of the testing machine's range. The relative error of the testing machine is not large.
One of the pressure plates is equipped with a spherical seat, which can compensate for the slight deviation of the parallelism between the pressure surface of the specimen and the pressure plate.
4.2 Bending strength testing machine. relative error is not more than 1%, capable of constant speed loading, loading and support blade diameter is 10mm±0.1mm.
4.3 Vernier caliper. accuracy is 0.02mm.
4.4 Oven. capable of maintaining heat at 110℃±5℃.
4.5 Drying dish.
4.6 Balance. accuracy is 0.1g.
5.Samples
5.1 Compressive strength test specimen
5.1.1 10 cylindrical specimens, diameter (d) 20 mm ± 2 mm, length (L) 20 mm ± 2 mm [diameter d of the stoneware specimen is
50mm±5mm, length (L) is 50mm±5mm].
5.1.2 The preparation of the test specimens shall adopt the same process as that used in the actual production of the material.
5.1.3 The specimen is processed to a point where the non-parallelism between the two bottom surfaces is less than 0.1 mm/mm and the non-perpendicularity between the generatrix and the bottom surface is less than 1°.
5.1.4 The specimen should be free of obvious defects and have a clean surface.
