1 Scope
This standard specifies the technical requirements, inspection methods, inspection rules, signs, packaging, transportation, and storage of scanning voice reading machines.
This standard applies to desktop scanning voice reading machines used by the visually impaired, with optional display and earphones.

Scanning voice reading machine
A voice reading machine that reads printed materials in scanning mode.

Set to use artificially synthesized speech to read out.
