Thermal insulation products for building - Determination by partial immersion method
Short-term water absorption
1 Scope
This document describes the apparatus and procedure for determining the short-term water absorption of samples by partial immersion.
This document applies to thermal insulation products.
NOTE. The procedures specified in this document are intended to simulate water absorption caused by rain during 24 hours of construction.
2 Normative references
The contents of the following documents constitute the essential clauses of this document through normative references in this document.

in this document.
ISO 29768 Thermal insulating products for building
applications-Determination of linear dimensions of test specimens)
3 Terms and definitions
There are no terms or definitions that require definition in this document.
4 Principle
The lower half of the sample was placed in water, and after 24 h, its mass change was measured.
Excess water adhering to the surface but not absorbed into the sample is removed by method A (drainage method) or calculated by method B.
5 Instruments
5.1 Use a balance to measure the mass of the sample to an accuracy of 0.1 g.
5.2 Water tank, means for controlling the water level to be constant within ±2 mm and means for keeping the specimen in the required position. Figure 1 shows the test apparatus.
Example. The device for maintaining the position of the specimen shall cover no more than 15% of the cross-sectional area of the specimen in water.
5.3 Tap water, adjusted to (23 ± 5) °C. In case of dispute, deionized water should be used. In tropical areas, different environmental
and test conditions. In this case, the temperature should be adjusted to (27 ± 5) °C and should be stated in the test report.
5.4 Drainage apparatus. Examples of such apparatus are given in Figures 2a) and 2b).

Thermal insulating products for building applications -
Determination of short term water absorption by
partial immersion
1 Scope
This Standard specifies the equipment and procedures for determining the
short-term water absorption of specimens by partial immersion. This Standard
is applicable to thermal insulating products.
NOTE The procedure specified by this Standard is intended to simulate the water absorption
caused by a 24 h raining period during construction work.
2 Normative references
The following referenced documents are indispensable for the application of
this document. For dated references, only the edition cited applies. For undated
references, the latest edition of the referenced document (including any
amendments) applies.
ISO 29768 Thermal insulating products for building applications -
Determination of linear dimensions of test specimens
ISO 5725-2 Accuracy (trueness and precision) of measurement methods
and results - Part 2. Basic method for the determination of repeatability and
reproducibility of a standard measurement method
3 Principle
A specimen is placed with its lower part in water for a period of 24 h and the
change in its mass is measured.
The excess water adhering to the surface but not absorbed by the specimen is
removed by drainage (method A) or taken into account by deduction of the initial
water uptake (method B).
4 Apparatus
4.1 Balance, capable of determining the mass of a specimen to an accuracy
6) date of testing,
7) general information relating to the test including a reference to the
method used (A or B) and, if relevant, the initial water uptake,
8) any events that can have affected the results;
d) results. all individual values and the mean value.
NOTE It is expected that information about the apparatus and identity of the person
responsible for the test be available in the laboratory, but it is not necessary that it be recorded
in the report.
