This document defines millet-related terms, specifies quality requirements, inspection rules, labeling, as well as packaging, storage and transportation requirements.

The following terms and definitions apply to this document.

millet proso millet (glutinous)
The caryopsis of cultivated millet (Panicum miliaceum L.), a herbaceous plant of the Poaceae family.
Note. The seeds are spherical or oval, the husk is milky white, light yellow or red. The fruit is white, yellow or brown, the rice grains are opaque and the rice is glutinous.

Defective kernel
Damaged millet kernels that are still useful.
Note 1.Includes insect-damaged grains, diseased grains, sprouted grains and moldy grains.

Note 3.Diseased kernel (mottled kernel) refers to the kernel with spots on the surface, which damage the embryo or endosperm.
Note 4.A sprouted kernel is a kernel whose bud or root breaks through the seed coat and whose length does not exceed that of the kernel itself.
Note 5.Mouldy kernels refer to kernels with mold on them.
