This standard replaces GB 8840-1988 "marine diesel engine exhaust smoke limit."
The standards are compared with GB 8840-1988 the following major technology changes.
--- Modify the representation of the value of smoke, the smoke Xu original wave RB modified to filter smoke SF;
--- According to standard smoke value SF and Standard Edition before smoke values RB table, modify the smoke of allowable limits;
--- Deleted partial load conditions measurement requirements.

1 Scope
This standard specifies the marine diesel engine (hereinafter referred to as "diesel") steady state conditions exhaust smoke of allowable limits.
This standard applies to restrictions on the exhaust smoke of marine diesel engine.
