This Standard is the revision of "Automobile Fan Clutch Test Method" (QC/T 33-1992). The main revisions of this Standard vs. QC/T 33-1992 are as follows. - The chapter of "Terms and Definitions" was added; - The more specific leakage test method was revised; - The high and low temperature stability tests were added; - The boundary conditions for temperature characteristic test were clearly specified; - The power characteristic curve was deleted; - The operating cycles of control units such as bimetallic strip was added, and the reliability test specification was modified. This Standard shall replace "Automobile Fan Clutch Test Method" (QC/T 33-1992) from the implementation date. Appendix A of this Standard is normative. This Standard was proposed by the National Technical Committee on Automobiles of Standardization Administration of China. Test Methods of Viscous Fan Clutch for Automotive Engines 1 Scope This Standard specifies test methods for the viscous fan clutch assembly that is used for automotive engines and is matched with cooling fan. This Standard is applicable to viscous fan clutch for automotive engines (hereinafter referred as "viscous fan clutch"). 2 Normative References The following standards contain provisions which, through reference in this text, constitute provisions of this Standard. For dated reference, subsequent amendments (excluding corrections) or revisions do not apply to this Standard. However, the parties who enter into agreement based on this Standard are encouraged to investigate the possibility of applying the most recent editions of the standards. For undated references, the latest edition of the normative document referred to applies. GB/T 18297-2001 Performance Test Code for Road Vehicle Engines 3 Terms and Definitions For the purpose of this Standard, the following terms and definitions apply. 3.1 Input speed The driving speed during the test of viscous fan clutch. 3.2 Engaged temperature When input speed is constant and it is at disengaged status, the viscous fan clutch undergoes temperature rise as required; the temperature at the “start turning point” - when the fan speed is increased significantly, until reaching the maximum speed, or the temperature when it exceeds the speed specified by design, it is called the engaged temperature. 3.3 Engaged speed At the engaged temperature, the fan speed which corresponds to input speed. 4.3 Type inspection Performance test, reliability test and bearing leakage test of viscous fan clutch. 5 General Requirements of Tests The instruments and meters used for tests shall be qualified through verification and be within their effective service life. 5.1 Temperature For thermometer, its accuracy shall not be less than Grade 0.5, its resolution shall be 0.1℃ and its time constant shall not be greater than 5s; the temperature sensor shall be placed with a distance not further than 30mm to the front-end-center of viscous fan clutch. 5.2 Speed The accuracy of the tachometer used for measuring the input speed and fan speed shall not be less than Grade 0.2. 5.3 Test devices The devices used for testing viscous fan clutch include driving device, air temperature control device, air supply equipment, testing instrument and data collecting & processing system. 5.3.1 Driving device The power and speed range of driving device shall meet the maximum power consumption and maximum speed of the tested fan and viscous fan clutch assembly, the driving device shall be capable of stepless speed-adjustment and its control accuracy shall be ±0.5%. 5.3.2 Air temperature control device The air heater shall be capable of temperature adjustment, the heating rate shall be less than 10℃/min and shall be controlled within the range of 2℃/min~5℃/min in the engaged temperature area; the cooling device may adopt cooling mode or cool-air-blowing mode, its temperature drop rate shall be less than 10℃/min and shall be controlled within range of 4℃ /min~8℃/min at the disengaged temperature area. 5.3.3 Air supply equipment The air supply equipment shall choose air blower or exhaust fan, and its air supply velocity can be controlled at 5m/s~20m/s. 6 Test Methods 6.1 Bearing leakage test 6.1.1 Normal-temperature leakage test At room temperature, APPLY 50kPa air pressure to one side of the double-side-sealed deep-groove-ball-bearing and MAINTAIN the pressure for 30s.
