Foreword
This standard was proposed by the China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Association.
This standard shall be under the jurisdiction of the National Technical Committee for
Standardization of Paints and Pigments.
The responsible drafting organization of this standard. Harbin Paint Factory.
This standard is directly converted from a national standard to a chemical industry
standard after the national standard is cleaned up and evaluated. Only editorial changes
have been made, whilst the technical content remains unchanged.
This standard was first issued in 1979 as HG 1-461-79.It was first revised to GB/T
1715-1979 in 1979.This time it is directly converted into a chemical industry standard.
This standard is entrusted to the National Technical Committee for Standardization of
Paints and Pigments for interpretation.
Determination of residue on sieve of pigments
1 Scope
This method refers to the ratio of the mass of the residue to the mass of the specimen,
after the pigment passes through a sieve with a certain aperture, expressed as a
percentage.
2 Materials and instruments
2.1 Sieve. Inner diameter 65 mm ~ 70 mm, height 35 mm ~ 40 mm;
Outer diameter 75 mm ~ 80 mm, height 50 mm ~ 55 mm;
2.2 Zhongkai [Translator. medium size] wool pen. Hair length 25 mm~30 mm;
2.3 Balance. Sensitivity 0.01 g, 0.0002 g;
2.4 Electric heating blower. Sensitivity ±1 °C;
2.5 95% ethanol. Chemically pure.
3 Determination method
3.1 Method A. Wet sieving method
Weigh 10 g of the specimen (accurate to 0.01 g); put it into a sieve moistened with
ethanol and weighed constant according to the product standard; moisten the specimen
with ethanol; hold the upper end of the sieve; immerse the bottom of the sieve in water;
gently scrub it with a Zhongkai [Translator. medium size] wool pen, until there are no
pigment particles in the water. Rinse it twice with distilled water and once with ethanol.
Finally, place it in a (105 ± 2) °C constant temperature oven for 2 h; quickly take it out
and place it in a desiccator to cool it to room temperature; weigh it (accurate to 0.0002
g) until constant weight.
