This standard replaces GB/T 7125-1999 “Test method for thickness of pressure-sensitive adhesive tape and adhesive tape”. As compared with GB/T 7125-1999, the main technical changes are as follows: - CHANGE the standard name from “Test method for thickness of pressure- sensitive adhesive tape and adhesive tape” to “Test method for thickness of adhesive tapes” (see cover; cover of the 1999 version); - ADD a clause on normative references (see clause 2); - DELETE the clause on meaning and use (see clause 3 of the 1999 version); - MODIFY the requirements for the gauge head diameter and the measurement pressure (see 4.1 and 4.2; 4.1.1 and 4.1.2 of the 1999 version); - MODIFY the requirements for the width and length of the specimen (see 5.1; 5.1 of the 1999 version); - MODIFY the requirements for the temperature range of test environment and the time required to condition the specimen (see clause 6; 6.1 of the 1999 version); - MODIFY the requirements for reading time during the testing (see 7.2; 7.1 of the 1999 version). This standard is revised in accordance with ASTM D3652/D3652M-01:2012 “Test method for thickness of pressure-sensitive adhesive tapes”. This standard has several structural adjustments as compared with ASTM D3652/D3652M-01:2012. Appendix A provides a comparison list of clause numbers of them. Tas compared with ASTM D3652/D3652M-01:2012, there are technical differences in this standard. The clauses involved in these differences have been indicated by a vertical single line (|) in the blank position of outer margin. Appendix B provides technical differences as well as the causes. This standard has made the following editorial changes: - MODIFY the description of the length unit, ASTM D3652/D3652M-01:2012 proposes three length units of mils, mm, in in 3.2.1, 5.1.1, 9.2, 10.1.2, respectively. However, in order to use the international unit of measurement, this standard uses mm or μm as the unit of length; - ADD Appendix A (informative) “Structural changes in this standard as compared with ASTM D3652/D3652M-01:2012”; - ADD Appendix B (informative) “Technical differences between this standard and ASTM D3652/D3652M-01:2012 and their causes”. This standard was proposed by the China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Federation. This standard shall be under the jurisdiction of the National Adhesive Standardization Technical Committee (SAC/TC 185). Drafting organizations of this standard: Guangzhou Hongchang Adhesive Tape Factory, Shanghai Rubber Products Research Institute, Yongda (Zhongshan) Co., Ltd., Lianguan (Zhongshan) Adhesive Products Co., Ltd., Yongyi Adhesive (Zhongshan) Co., Ltd., Guangdong Damei New Materials Co., Ltd., Zhongshan New Asia Adhesive Products Co., Ltd., Shanghai Jinhua Adhesive Products Development Co., Ltd., Fengdu Technology Development Co., Ltd., Hebei Huaxia Industrial Co., Ltd. The main drafters of this standard: Wu Weiqing, Tang Minfeng, He Hanjian, Chen Huachang, Wang Can, Zhang Jianqing, Cheng Xin, Ke Yuehu, Yang Yangquan, Sun Fengxian, Xu Ning. This standard replaces the standard previously issued as follows: - GB/T 7125-1986, GB/T 7125-1999. Test method for thickness of adhesive tapes 1 Scope This standard specifies the test method for the thickness of pressure-sensitive adhesive tapes and other adhesive tapes. This standard applies to the determination of the thickness of adhesive tape. It is used for quality control of adhesive tape products. 2 Normative references The following documents are essential to the application of this document. For the dated documents, only the versions with the dates indicated are applicable to this document; for the undated documents, only the latest version (including all the amendments) are applicable to this standard. GB/T 22396 Terminology relating to pressure sensitive adhesive products GB/T 22520 Dial thickness gauges 3 Terms and definitions The terms and definitions as defined in GB/T 22396 as well as the following terms and definitions apply to this document. 3.1 Thickness of adhesive tape The vertical distance between the front and back of the tape as measured at a specified pressure. 4 Devices 4.1 Test instrument: Dial thickness gauges which comply with the requirements of GB/T 22520. Its measuring head consists of two upper and lower planes, wherein the higher smaller plane is circular and has a diameter of 5 mm ~ 16 mm. The two planes shall be parallel to each other and perpendicular to their axes. The non-parallelism between the two planes shall be less than 0.005 mm. 4.2 When the specimen is clamped between the upper and lower planes of the measuring head, it is subjected to a stable pressure of 40 kPa ~ 60 kPa. 4.3 The resolution of the dial thickness gauge is not more than 0.002 mm. 5 Samples and specimens 5.1 The width of the specimen is larger than the diameter of the smaller measuring head. The length of the specimen is not less than 50 mm. The specimen does not have wrinkle or folding mark. 5.2 Before sampling for the test, remove at least three layers, but not more than six layers, from the sample adhesive tape roll. 5.3 Unless otherwise specified, the number of samples of each set of adhesive tape roll shall be not less than five. Take one specimen from each of the adhesive tape roll sample. At the time of sampling, from the free-rotating adhesive tape roll, use a rate of about 500 mm/s ~ 750 mm/s to take the specimen. When it cannot take sample at the specified rate due to width or other factors, use the rate of about 500 mm/s to take specimen. 6 Test environment Before the test, hold the sample adhesive tape roll in the test environment. Make its state reach balance. The state conditioning time is not less than 24 h. The test ambient temperature is 23 °C ± 1 °C. The relative humidity is 50% ± 5%. 7 Test process 7.1 Before each measurement, use appropriate solvent to clean the measuring head. Adjust the dial thickness gauge to zero. 7.2 Place the specimen between the upper and lower planes of the measuring head of the measuring instrument. Allow the adhesive side to face upwards. During the test, slowly lower down the measuring head. Finally cover the surface of the adhesive tape. After lowering down the upper measuring head for 1 s, record the reading of the dial gauge, expressed in mm or μm, accurate to 0.002 mm. For each specimen, measure 3 points at different positions. Take the arithmetic mean of the 3 readings as the thickness value of the specimen. 7.3 When measuring the double-sided adhesive tape with release film or release paper, use the steps as shown in 7.2. When measuring the thickness of the specimen with one-sided release film or release paper, make a mark at the measured position of the release film or release paper. Peel off the release film or release paper, at the marked position, use the steps as shown in 7.2 to measure thickness. Respectively calculate the difference of the two measurement results at each position. The arithmetic mean of the three differences is the thickness of this specimen. 8 Report The report includes the following: a) The number and name of this standard, indicating any inconsistency with the provisions of this standard; b) Identification information of the sample adhesive tape, including type, source, number of sample tape rolls, production number, etc.; c) Test results of thickness, expressed in mm or μm; d) Other content that needs to be explained. Appendix A (Informative) Structural changes in this standard as compared with ASTM D3652/D3652M-01:2012 As compared with ASTM D3652/D3652M-01:2012, this standard is basically the same in structure. The specific clause number comparison is as shown in Table A.1. Table A.1 -- Comparison list of clause number between this standard and ASTM D3652/D3652M-01:2012 Clause number of this standard Clause number of corresponding ASTM D3652/D3652M-01:2012 Appendix A Appendix B Appendix B (Informative) Technical differences between this standard and ASTM D3652/D3652M- 01:2012 and their causes The technical differences between this standard and ASTM D3652/D3652M- 01:2012 and their causes are as shown in Table B.1.
