3 Terms and definitions
For the purposes of this document, the terms and definitions defined in GB/T
18833 and GB 20653 as well as the followings apply.
3.1 reflective vest for motor vehicle passengers
Apparel that is for vehicle occupants, that has high visibility and warning
function
4 Technical requirements
4.1 General requirements
4.1.1 Appearance quality
The reflective vest for motor vehicle passengers (hereinafter referred to as
“reflective vest”) shall be clean, without damage or iron-finishing. There shall be
no thread-loosening thread-disconnection, thread-jumping in the sewing part.
The vest shall be flat, consistent in width, without arching.
4.1.2 Pattern
materials shall be less than or equal to 100mm/min.
5 Test methods
5.1 General requirements
5.1.1 Appearance quality
In an environment that the illumination is not less than 150lx, place the reflective
vest flat on the test bench. Within a distance of 1m, face the reflective vest and
visually inspect it.
5.1.2 Pattern
Visually inspect the appearance according to the 5.1.1 method. Use a
measuring tool of which the accuracy is not less than 1mm to measure the bust
of the finished vest (measure one cycle parallel to the position of the chest of
the reflective vest), the vest length (the length from the top to the bottom of the
reflective vest) and the width and length of the retroreflective material. Calculate
the total use area of the retroreflective material.
5.1.3 Manufacture
Visually inspect the appearance according to the 5.1.1 method. Use a
measuring tool of which the accuracy is not less than 1mm to measure the
distance from the seam to the edge of the retroreflective material.
5.1.4 Safety
According to the requirements in 6.1, 6.2 of GB 18401-2010, conduct the tests
of pH value and formaldehyde content. Use artificial olfaction to check the smell
of the reflective vest.
5.2 Material performance
5.2.1 Fluorescent material
5.2.1.1 Color
The test uses D65 standard illuminator, 45°a:0° geometry and 2° field of view
that are specified in GB/T 3978. Conduct the test according to the 5.1 provisions
in GB/T 3979-2008.
5.2.1.2 Color fastness to light
Conduct the test according to Method 3 in 7.2.4 of GB/T 8427-2008. When the
No. 4 blue control standard sample becomes level 4, test the sample color
Annex D of GB 20653-2006.
5.2.2.2.2 Test procedures
The test procedures are as follows:
a) Cut a 50mm × 150mm retroreflective material sample. Fix it on the
equipment sample rack;
b) Adjust water pressure to make water flow at 200 × (1 ± 5%) mL/min.
Conduct the simulated rain test to the sample;
c) The test time is not less than 3min;
d) In the simulated rain state, test the retroreflective coefficient of the
retroreflective material at an incident angle of 5° and an observation angle
of 12'.
5.2.2.3 Retroreflection coefficient after physical test
According to the methods in 7.4 of GB 20653-2006, respectively conduct the
abrasion resistance, flexing, low temperature bending, water washing (20 times)
tests to the retroreflective material. After the tests, check the sample and re-test
the retroreflection coefficient.
5.2.2.4 Solvent resistance performance
Cut 3 pieces of 50mm × 150mm retroreflective material samples. Respectively
wipe 92# unleaded petrol, 0# diesel and SAE20 lubricant on 3 samples. Wipe
back and forth 10 times on each piece of sample. Then use clean cotton cloths
or cotton balls to wipe the samples clean. After they are recovered at room
temperature for 1h, check the sample and re-test the retroreflection coefficient.
5.3 Finished vest performances
5.3.1 Temperature resistance test
5.3.1.1 Test equipment
The test equipment shall meet the requirements of GB/T 2423.1 and GB/T
2423.2.
5.3.1.2 Test methods
Place the reflective vest in packaging state into a test box. Place it at a
temperature of 70°C ± 2°C for 15.5h. After adjusting the test box temperature
to 22°C ± 2°C, place for 0.5g. Then adjust the test box temperature to -30°C ±
2°C, place for 7.5g. Conduct the test continuously for 3 cycles. After the test,
check the appearance of the reflective vest and re-test the retroreflection
coefficient of retroreflective material.
5.3.2 Flame retardant test
Conduct the test according to the method in Clause 4 of GB 8410-2006.
6 Inspection rules
6.1 Inspection type
The inspection for the reflective vest is divided into type inspection and exit-
factory inspection.
6.2 Type inspection
6.2.1 The inspection application
Usually, the type inspection should be conducted in one of the following cases
for the reflective vest:
a) test stereotypes identification of new product or old product conversion
production;
b) after the formal production, for example, when the raw material, production
process, production equipment has significant changes that may affect
product performance;
c) when production is resumed after the production has been discontinued
for more than one year;
d) when the results of the exit-factory inspection and the type inspection are
quite different;
f) when the purchaser or national market supervision and management
department requires to carry out the type inspection.
6.2.2 Inspection items, methods and determination
Conduct the type inspection according to the test items and methods specified
in Clause 5. If one test item fails to meet the requirements in Clause 4, the type
inspection for this reflective vest shall be rejected.
6.3 Exit-factory inspection
6.3.1 Inspection items and methods
Before each batch of reflective vest exit the factory, conduct the inspection
according to the requirements in Table 5. Select the exit-factory inspection
