Steel plates and strips for freight containers
1 Scope
This Standard specifies the grade representation, order contents, dimension,
shape, weight, tolerance, technical requirements, test methods, inspection
rules, packaging, symbols and quality certificate of the steel plates and strips
for freight containers.
This Standard is applicable to the hot-rolled steel plates and strips for freight
containers with the thicknesses of 1.0mm to 16.0mm, and the cold-rolled steel
plates and strips for freight containers with the thicknesses of 1.0mm to 2.5mm.
The steel plates and strips are mainly used for manufacturing the freight
containers, and can also be used for manufacturing the camp rooms, transport
vehicles, etc.

3 Grade representation
3.1 The grades of hot-rolled steel plates and strips shall be composed of four
parts. the first letter “Q” of the Chinese phonetic alphabet of the Chinese
character “屈” representing the yield strength; the first letters “NH” and “J” of
the Chinese phonetic alphabets of the Chinese characters “耐候” and “集”; the
lower limit of the yield strength; and the quality grade of steel.
Example 1. Q550NHJE
Q - The first letter of the Chinese phonetic alphabet of the Chinese character “屈” representing the yield
strength;
550 - Specified minimum value of the yield strength, in unit of Megapascal (MPa);
NHJ - The first letters of the Chinese phonetic alphabets of the Chinese characters “耐候” and “集”
respectively representing the weathering steels and freight containers;
E - Quality grade E.
Example 2. Q700JE
Q - The first letter of the Chinese phonetic alphabet of the Chinese character “屈” representing the yield
strength;
700 - Specified minimum value of the yield strength, in unit of Megapascal (MPa);
J - The first letter of the Chinese phonetic alphabet of the Chinese character “集” representing the freight
containers;
E - Quality grade E.
b According to the agreement reached between both sides, for the product with the thickness of less than 3.0mm,
the lower limit of the tensile strength can be 510MPa;
c If the specimen thickness is greater than 8mm, the minimum yield strength is allowed to decrease by 20MPa;
d a refers to the specimen thickness; b refers to the specimen width.

a The impact specimen dimensions shall be 10mm × 10mm × 55mm.
6.4.2 Charpy (v-notch) impact energy absorption shall be calculated in
accordance with the arithmetic mean value of three specimen values. One of
the specimen values is allowed to be less than the specified value in Table 6,
but shall not be less than 70% of the specified value.
6.4.3 For the steel plates with the thicknesses of less than 12mm, Charpy (v-
notch) impact test shall use auxiliary specimens. For the steel plates with the
thicknesses of greater than 8mm and less than 12mm, the auxiliary specimen
dimensions shall be 10mm × 7.5mm × 55mm. The test results shall not be less
than 75% of the specified value in Table 6. For the steel plates with the
thicknesses of 6mm to 8mm, the auxiliary specimen dimension...
