Textiles - Tests for colour fastness -
Colour fastness to transfer in joints
1 Scope
This Standard specifies two test methods for determining the colour fastness to
transfer in joints of textiles, namely the washing method and the soaking
method.
This Standard applies to all kinds of textiles that are stitched from dark and light-
colored textiles. Non-stitched textiles can implement by reference.
2 Normative references
The following documents are indispensable for the application of this document.
For dated references, only the dated version applies to this document. For
undated references, the latest edition (including all amendments) applies to this
document.

3 Principle
3.1 Washing method
Place the sample in the specified washing solution; perform a mechanical
agitation under the conditions of the specified bath ratio, time and temperature;
wash and dry; then, use the grey scale for assessing staining or the instrument
to assess the staining of the sample.
3.2 Soaking method
pressure requirements of the sample, the combined samples can be cut directly
at the joint.
7 Operating procedures
7.1 Method A -- washing method
7.1.1 Use a balance (4.5) to weigh 4 g of ECE standard washing agent (5.1);
prepare it, together with grade-3 water (5.2), into 1 L of washing solution;
preheat to (40 ± 2)°C for future use.
Put the combined sample and the preheated washing solution into a washing
cup at the bath ratio of 50:1; put it into the test device A (4.1) and run it at (40 ±
2)°C for 30 min.
Note: Other test temperatures can also be used after the agreement of the
relevant parties; however, it shall be stated in the test report.
7.1.2 Take out the combined sample after washing; use running water to rinse
to clean; then, squeeze out excess water; finally, use a filter paper (5.3) to
absorb excess water.
7.1.3 Use a clip to clamp the unjointed end of the dark sample; hang it in the air
that does not exceed 60°C to dry.
7.1.4 Use the grey scale for assessing staining (5.4) or the instrument (5.5) to
assess the staining of light-colored sample.
7.2 Method B -- soaking method
7.2.1 Use a balance (4.5) to weigh 4 g of ECE standard washing agent (5.1);
prepare it, with grade-3 water (5.2), into 1 L of solution; cool to room
temperature.
7.2.2 Place a combined sample flat in a flat-bottomed container; inject the
solution that is prepared according to 7.2.1 to make it completely wet; the bath
ratio is 50:1. Place it at room temperature for 30 minutes; press and stir it from
time to time, so as to ensure that the test solution can penetrate into the sample
fully and uniformly. Take out the sample; pour off the residual solution; use two
glass rods to clamp the excess test solution on the combined sample.
7.2.3 Place the combined sample flat in the middle of the two glass or acrylic
resin plates of the test device B (4.2); make the vertical pressure of the sample
at (12.5 ± 0.9) kPa.
Note: 10 combined samples, at most, can be placed on each test device for
testing at the same time; each sample is separated by a plate (11 in total)
