Fragrance, Flavor Cosmetic of Standardization Administration of China (SAC/TC 257).

Massage Essential Oil
1 Scope
This Standard specifies the terms and definitions, classification, requirements, test
methods, inspection rules and marking, packaging, transportation, storage and shelf
life requirements of massage essential oil.
This Standard is applicable to massage essential oil products that need to be diluted
with massage base oil before being used for human skin massage and care.
2 Normative References
The provisions in following documents become the provisions of this Standard through
reference in this Standard. For dated references, the subsequent amendments
(excluding corrigendum) or revisions do not apply to this Standard, however, parties
who reach an agreement based on this Standard are encouraged to study if the latest
versions of these documents are applicable. For undated references, the latest edition
of the referenced document applies.

3 Terms Definitions
For the purpose of this document, the following terms and definitions apply.
3.1 Essential oil
Product obtained from plant raw materials by any of the following methods.
3.2 Absolute
An aromatic product obtained from extract, balsam or sweet resin extracted by the
ethanol at the room temperature.
3.3 Massage essential oil
The product for caring the human body, made by mixing one or more essential oils
and/or absolutes and the fragrance ingredients contained in the essential oils or
absolute and an appropriate amount of solvents and antioxidants to improve the quality.
3.4 Massage base oil
An oily product made from mixing the refined plant oil, mineral oil, antioxidants and
other raw materials; used to dilute massage essential oils and/or human skin massage.
4 Classification
According to plant species extracted by products, the Latin scientific names may be
divided into. mentha piperita oil; citrus paradisi oil; citrus sinensis; citrus limon; ocimum
basilicum; rosmarinus of ficinalis oil; rosa damascena oil; rosa sertata × rosa rugosa
oil; pelargonium graveolens oil; jasminum gradiflorum oil; jasminum sambac oil;
5 Requirements
5.1 The used raw materials
The used raw materials shall conform to the provisions of WJDF [2007] No. 1 Hygienic
Standard for Cosmetics; 78 types of plant essential oils or absolutes specified in the
Table 2 (2) of Hygienic Standard for Cosmetics are prohibited to be used.
5.3 Sensory, physical and chemical, hygienic indicators
The sensory, physical, chemical and hygienic indicators can refer to Table 1.
5.4 Net content
It shall conform to the provisions of No.75 command from General Administration of
Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine.
5.5 Appearance quality of the packaging
It shall conform to the provisions of QB/T 1685.
6 Test Methods
6.1 Sensory indicators
6.2 Physical and chemical indicators
6.2.1 Relative density
It shall be tested as per the method specified in GB/T 13531.4.
6.3 Hygienic indicators
It shall be tested as per the method specified in WJDF [2007] No.1 provisions.
6.4 Net content
It shall be tested as per the method specified in Appendix of JJF 1070.
6.5 Requirements of packaging appearance
It shall be tested as per the method in QB/T 1685.
7 Inspection Rules
It shall be implemented as per QB/T1684.
8 Marking, Packaging, Transportation, Storage, Shelf
Life
8.1 Marking of sales packaging
8.1.1 The visual surface of the sales packaging shall be marked with words such as
"please see the instruction manual before use"; and the others shall be implemented
in accordance with GB 5296.3.
8.1.2 Each bottle of sales packaging products shall be accompanied by instructions for
use, and the following contents should be marked.
8.1.3 Warning terms shall be marked with the following contents.
8.2 Packaging
The sales packaging shall be sealed with glass or ceramic bottles that can be protected
from light. Others shall be implemented according to QB/T1685.
8.3 Transportation
It Shall be lightly loaded and unloaded and stacked according to the icon of the box.
Avoid high temperatures, violent vibrations, impacts, sun and rain.
Appendix A
(Normative)
Test Methods of the Acid Value of the Massage Essential Oil
A.1 Principle
Titrate the free fatty acids in massage essential oil by potassium hydroxide standard
solution.
A.2 Reagents and materials
Unless otherwise specified, the reagents are analytically pure; and the water is distilled
water or water of equivalent purity.
A.3 Instruments
A.3.1 Analytical balance. accuracy of 0.0001g.
A.3.2 Conical flask.
A.3.3 Burette.
