ISO 8991 does not specify the designation system for fastener name, standard number, type and size, performance level and surface treatment as well as the simplification principle of designation, which are specified in this Standard (sub- clauses 3.2 ~ 3.4, Clause 4). This Standard modified and supplemented the content of “designation examples” in ISO 8991 (Clause 5). This Standard is a revision of GB/T 1237-1988. The main modifications are as follows. a) moved “type” of GB/T 1237-1988 before “performance level or hardness or material” in this Standard, merged with “other requirements for type and size” of GB/T 1237-1988 and modified the name to “product type” (see 3.1); b) added designation positions for “thread length or rod length” or “pull-up type” (see 3.1); c) “-” in designation is allowed to omit (see 4.2); d) modified and supplemented the content of “5 Designation examples” (Clause 5). Since the implementation of this Standard, GB/T 1237-1988 is replaced simultaneously. This Standard was proposed by National Machinery Industry Bureau. This Standard shall be under the jurisdiction of National Technical Committee on Fasteners of Standardization Administration of China. Main drafter of this Standard. Institute of Mechanical Science. Designation system for fasteners 1 Scope This Standard specifies a system for the designation of fasteners in product standards. 2 Normative references The following standards contain provisions which, through reference in this Standard, constitute provisions of this Standard. At the time of publication, the editions indicated are valid. All standards are subject to revision. The parties who are using this Standard shall explore the possibility of using the latest version of the following standards.
