Foreword
This standard was drafted in accordance with the rules given in GB/T
1.1-2009.
This standard replaces GB/T 4879-1999 “Rustproof packaging”. In addition to
editorial changes, as compared with GB/T 4879-1999, the main technical
changes of this standard are as follows.
- RE-DESCRIBE the Chapter 1 “Scope”;
- DELETE the Chapter 3 “Terms”;
- MODIFY the rustproof period of the level 1 packaging from “within 3 ~ 5
years” into “2 years”; MODIFY the rustproof period of the level 2 packaging
from “within 2 ~ 3 years” into “1 year”; MODIFY the rustproof period of the
level 3 packaging from “within 2 years” into “0.5 year” (SEE 3.2);
- ADD the description of the rustproof level of special packaging (SEE 3.2);
- DELETE the provisions on rustproof materials (SEE 5.2.1 and 5.2.2 of the
1999 version);
- MERGE the “Environmental requirements” (SEE 5.3 of the 1999 version)
and “General requirements” (SEE Chapter 4);
- DELETE the provisions on “marking” (SEE Chapter 8 of the 1999 version);
- COMBINE B3 and B5 in Table A.4 in Appendix A; CMOBINE B4 and B9;
MAKE appropriate modifications;
- MODIFY part of “A.4 Packaging” in Appendix A.
This standard was proposed by AND shall be under the jurisdiction of the
National Packaging Standardization Technical Committee (SAC/TC 49).

Rustproof packaging
1 Scope
This standard specifies the rustproof packaging level, general requirements,
material requirements, rustproof packaging methods, and test methods.
This standard applies to the design, production and inspection of rustproof
packaging.
2 Normative references
The following documents are essential to the application of this document. For
the dated documents, only the versions with the dates indicated are applicable
to this document; for the undated documents, only the latest version (including
all the amendments) are applicable to this Standard.

3 Rustproof packaging level
3.1 It shall determine the rustproof packaging level through comprehensive
consideration of such factors as the nature of the product, circulation
environment conditions, and the rustproof period, etc.
3.2 Rustproof packaging level is generally divided into level 1, 2, and 3, as
shown in Table 1. When there is special requirement for the packaging
materials, it may follow such special requirement.
5 Material requirements
5.1 As for the rustproof materials used in the product, its quality shall meet the
requirements of relevant standards.
5.2 Desiccants are generally of mineral desiccants. Mineral desiccant shall be
in accordance with BB/T 0049.
5.3 The vapor rustproof packaging materials shall comply with the relevant
provisions of GB/T 14188.
5.4 The inner packaging materials for protection shall comply with the relevant
provisions of GB/T 12339.
5.5 The rustproof packaging materials shall, in addition to the relevant tests, be
subjected to the compatibility test in accordance with the provisions of GB/T
16265, the contact corrosion test in accordance with the provisions of GB/T
16266, AND the vapor corrosion test in accordance with the provisions of GB/T
16267.
5.6 If necessary, it shall use a humidity indication card, humidity indicator or
humidity indication device, AND they shall be as far away as possible from the
desiccant. The humidity indication card shall comply with the relevant
provisions of GJB 2494.
6 Rustproof packaging method
6.1 It shall determine the rustproof packaging methods based on the following
conditions.
a) The characteristics of the product and the degree of surface processing;
b) The duration of transport and storage;
c) The environmental conditions for transport and storage;
d) The degree of load the product is subjected to during the circulation;
e) The rustproof packaging level.
6.2 The rustproof packaging is divided into cleaning, drying, rust-proofing and
packaging.
a) Cleaning. it shall remove the dust, grease residue, perspiration and other
foreign matter from the product surface. It may select one or more
methods from A.1 for cleaning purposes.
b) Drying. The metal surface of the product shall be dried immediately after
cleaning. It may select one or more methods from A.2 for drying
purposes.
