1 Scope

This Standard specifies the test methods for hydrogen emission of fuel cell electric vehicles. This Standard applies to fuel cell electric vehicles (of categories M and N) using compressed hydrogen as fuel (hereinafter referred to as “vehicles”).

3 Terms and definitions

For the purposes of this document, the terms and definitions given in GB/T 24548 apply.

4 Test apparatus

4.1 Chassis dynamometer and its testing accuracy shall be as specified in GB 18352.5- 2013. As specified by manufacturers, start fuel cell engine to maintain it in the idle state; maintain for 1 min after each time of exhausting and purging; stop engine in accordance with the procedures specified by manufacturers. 6.1.3 Measurement of relative volume concentration of hydrogen emission Relative volume concentration of hydrogen emission shall be measured as follows. a) carry out hydrogen emission relative volume concentration measurement from starting fuel cell engine until fuel cell engine is fully stopped; b) location of measurement points. 100 mm outside exhaust ports, located on the extension line of geometrical center line of exhaust ports. 6.1.4 Test requirements Test process shall meet the following requirements. a) test is carried out for one time; b) record continuously the time history curve of hydrogen emission relative volume concentration with the sampling frequency not lower than 5 Hz. 6.2 Hydrogen emission in the working state under cyclic operation conditions 6.2.1 Preparation of test vehicles Before test is officially started, place test vehicle on a chassis dynamometer with load and inertia simulation; carry out test at a certain speed to make the working temperature of fuel cell electric engine to achieve the working state temperature as specified by manufacturers; then stop vehicle and shut down fuel cell electric engine. 6.2.2 Test process Test process shall meet the following requirements. a) fuel cell electric vehicles of categories M1 and N1, and M2 (total mass not exceeding 3.5 t for category M2). load of test vehicle is applied as specified in GB 18352.5-2013. Start vehicles in accordance with the procedures as specified by manufacturers; carry out test under the cyclic operation conditions (including urban operation cycles and urban operation cycles) as specified in GB 18352.5- 2013, Appendix CA. During test, the deviations of vehicle speed shall be as specified in GB 18352.5-2013. For fuel cell electric vehicles of categories M2, M3, N2 and N3 with a total mass exceeding 3.5 t. load of test vehicle is applied as specified in GB/T 19754-2015. Start vehicle in accordance with the procedure as specified by manufacturers; carry out test under the Chinese typical urban public transportation cyclic working conditions as specified in GB/T 19754-2015, Annex

(Normative) Methods for calculating hydrogen emission A.1 Actual hydrogen consumption of fuel cell stack If the results of hydrogen mass flowmeter are recorded in flow unit, then the actually measured hydrogen consumption of fuel cell stack within a time is calculated in accordance with Equation (A.1). where. MH2 – the actually measured hydrogen consumption of fuel cell stack, in g; mH2 – the actually measured hydrogen flow of fuel cell stack, in g/s; T1 – the starting time, in s; T2 – the ending time, in s. A.2 Theoretical hydrogen consumption of fuel cell stack The theoretical hydrogen consumption of fuel cell stack within a time is calculated in accordance with Equation (A.2). where. MH2_theo – the theoretical hydrogen consumption of fuel cell stack, in g; mH2_theo – the theoretical hydrogen flow rate of fuel cell stack, in g/s; T1 – the starting time, in s; T2 – the ending time, in s.
