The main technical contents of this standard is formulated by reference to ISO 3303.1990 "Rubber-or Plastics-coated Fabrics-Determination of Bursting Strength" and EN 12332-1.1998 "Rubber-or Plastics-coated Fabrics-Determination of Bursting Strength - Part 1.Steel Ball Method". Appendix A and Appendix B of this standard are informative. This standard was proposed by China National Textile and Apparel Council. This standard shall be under the jurisdiction of the Sub-committee for foundation of Technical Committee on Textiles of Standardization Administration of China. Drafting organizations of this standard. Standardization Institute of Textile Industry and China National Textiles Quality Supervision Testing Center. Chief drafting staffs of this standard. Zheng Yuying, Wang Ying and Hong Yan. Textiles - Determination of Bursting Strength – Steel Ball Method1 Scope
This standard specifies the methods for the determination of the bursting strength of textile by polished steel balls, including the test piece bursting strength tests in two states of conditioning in standard atmosphere for test and soaked in the water. This standard is applicable to various textiles.2 Normative References
The following normative documents contain the provisions which, through reference in this standard, constitute the provisions of this standard. For dated reference, the subsequent amendments or revisions of these publications do not apply. However, all parties who reach an agreement according to this standard are encouraged to study whether the latest editions of these documents are applicable. For undated references, the latest edition of the normative document referred to applies. GB 6529 Standard Atmospheres for Textiles Conditioning and Testing3 Terms and Definitions
The following terms and definitions are applicable to this standard. 3.1 Bursting strength (strength at burst) It refers to the measured maximum force in the process when the polished steel balls is pressed against the test piece in the direction vertical to test piece plane until the test piece is damaged.4 Principle
A test piece is securely clamped between coaxial apertures of the fixed base. A polished steel ball, traversing at a fixed speed, is pressed against the test piece until failure occurs.5 Apparatuses
5.1 Constant rate of extension (CRE) testing machine with force measurement accuracy not more than ±1% of the indicating value, including one test piece clamp and a polished steel ball component. 5.2 Bursting attachment, such that the test piece is held securely by a ring mechanism and a steel polished steel ball. The ring mechanism has an internal diameter of 45mm±0.5mm, with a concentric trench on the surface in case of sliding of the test piece. 5.3 The instruments, Grade 3 water and nonionic wetting agent required by the humidity test.6 Samples
The test pieces shall be representative without folding and wrinkle at the test zone and selvages. Appendix B provides a reference method for selection of the test zone as an example.7 Conditioning
The atmospheres for preconditioning, conditioning and testing shall be in accordance with GB 6529.The preconditioning and conditioning are not required for the humidity test.8 Test Procedures
8.1 Installation of bursting attachment Select polished steel balls of diameter 25mm or 38mm. Install the polished steel ball and clamp on the testing machine to ensure the center of ring clamp on the axial line of ball. 8.2 Set the machine Select measuring range of force to make its output value at 10%~90% of the full range. Set the speed of the testing machine as 300mm/min± 10mm/min. 8.3 Clamp test piece Clamp the test piece on the clamp with reverse side facing ball; the test piece shall be ensured to be flat and smooth without pull and wrinkles. 8.5 Humidity test Conduct a test immediately after taking the test piece out of liquid and on the absorbent paper to absorb superfluous water.9 Calculation and Expression of Results
9.1 Calculate average value of bursting strength, in N, to the nearest 1N. 9.2 Calculate coefficient of variation CV of bursting strength, if required, to the nearest 0.1%. 10 Test Report The test report shall cover the following contents.Appendix A

(Informative) Selection of Test Zone The example method provided by Figure B.1 may be adopted under no requirements of textile sampling. ......Source: Above contents are excerpted from the full-copy PDF -- translated/reviewed by: www.ChineseStandard.net / Wayne Zheng et al.
