1 Scope
This standard specifies the gas chromatographic method for the determination of C1~C48 alcohols in biodiesel.
This standard applies to the determination of methanol, ethanol, n-propanol, isopropanol, n-butanol, isobutanol, t-butanol, and sec-butanol in biodiesel.
2 Method summary
The sample was quantitatively dissolved in dichloromethane by means of solvent dilution. Analysis of Alcohols in Biodiesel by Gas Chromatography

3 Reagents and materials
3.1 Anhydrous sodium sulphate. pure grade, burn for 4 hours at 650°C, cool to room temperature in a desiccator, sealed and stored for future use.
3.2 Dichloromethane. Chromatographically pure.
3.3 Methanol standard (CAS67-56-1), purity ≥ 99.5%.
3.4 Ethanol standard (CAS64-17-5), purity ≥ 99.5%.
3.5 N-propanol standard (CAS71-23-8), purity ≥ 99.5%.
3.6 isopropyl alcohol standard (CAS67-63-0), purity ≥ 99.5%.
3.7 n-butanol standard (CAS71-36-3), purity ≥ 99.5%.
3.8 isobutanol standard (CAS78-83-1), purity ≥ 99.5%.
3.9 tert-butanol standard (CAS75-65-0), purity ≥ 99.5%.
3.10 sec-butanol standard (CAS78-98-2), purity ≥ 99.5%.
3.11 standard solution (currently used). Accurately weigh 0.10g (accurate to 0.0001g) of 8 alcohol standard samples into 100mL volume
In a bottle, dissolve with dichloromethane to reach a constant volume. This solution contains 8 alcohols each 1000 mg/L.
3.12 standard working solution (currently used). Pipette 150μL,.200μL, 400μL, 600μL, and 800μL, respectively, with a micropipette.
1000 μL of standard solution (3.11) into a 10 mL volumetric flask and dilute to volume with methylene chloride to a concentration of 15 mg/L, 20 mg/L,
40 mg/L, 60 mg/L, 80 mg/L, 100 mg/L standard working solution.
3.13 Organic phase filter. 0.45 μm.
3.14 disposable syringe. 5mL.
4 Instruments and Equipment
4.1 Gas chromatograph. with FID detector.
4.2 Capillary column. DB-624 (6% cyanopropyl 94% methyl polysiloxane), 30 m x 0.25 mm x 0.25 μm, or equivalent.
4.3 Micropipettes. 100μL~1000μL.
