Determination of total dissolved inorganic carbon in sea water
Non-dispersive infrared absorption method
1 Scope
This standard specifies the principle, operation steps and calculation of the method for the determination of total dissolved inorganic carbon in seawater by the non-dispersive infrared absorption method.
This standard applies to the determination of total dissolved inorganic carbon content in oceanic seawater, coastal seawater, and estuary seawater. The measurement range is
1650μmol/kg~2350μmol/kg.

3 Terms and definitions
The following terms and definitions apply to this document.
3.1
Total dissolved inorganic carbon dissolvedinorganiccarbon, DIC.
The total amount of dissolved inorganic carbon (including dissolved CO2, H2CO3, HCO-3, CO2-3) contained in each kilogram of seawater, single
The position is micromole per kilogram (μmol/kg).
4 Principle of the method
The total dissolved inorganic carbon in seawater is transformed into free carbon dioxide (CO2) under acidic conditions, and the resulting carbon dioxide is generated by using high-purity nitrogen as the carrier gas.
The carbon oxide is blown into the drying system to dry, and enters the non-dispersive infrared analysis detector to determine the amount of carbon dioxide, and calculate the total dissolved inorganic carbon in the seawater
content.
5 Reagents and materials
Unless otherwise stated, the reagents used in this standard are analytically pure, and the water is deionized water or equivalent pure water.
5.1 Nitrogen. purity ≥99.999%.
5.2 Silicone grease. it can be fully ashed when calcined at 450℃.
5.3 Magnesium perchlorate. fine particles.
5.4 Seawater standard sample. The total dissolved inorganic carbon content can be accurate to 0.1μmol/kg. Under normal circumstances, it will be effective within 3d after opening.
Store at room temperature and avoid light or refrigerate at 4°C. If the remaining seawater standard sample volume is less than 2/3 of the bottle volume, it should be replaced.
5.5 Phosphoric acid solution. Dissolve 100g of sodium chloride in about 500mL of water, after it is completely dissolved, add 100mL of phosphoric acid (ρ=1.685g/mL),
Dilute to 1000mL.
5.6 Saturated mercuric chloride solution. Dissolve 8.0g of mercuric chloride in about 100mL of water, stir well, and there is a small amount of mercuric chloride in the solution after standing still
