This standard replaces GB/T 5495-1985 "grain and oilseeds test the rice roughness test method."
This standard and GB/T 5495-1985 compared to the major differences are as follows.

1 Scope
This standard specifies the roughness paddy terms and definitions, principles, apparatus and appliances, for sampling, sample preparation, procedures, and results of calculations.
This standard applies to the commodity rice roughness measurement.
