1 General Provisions

1.0.1 This standard is developed with a view to measure the basic engineering properties of soil and unify the test methods, thus providing reliable parameters for engineering and construction. 1.0.2 This standard applies for the testing of basic engineering properties of foundation soil and building soil in various construction projects such as industrial and civil building, irrigation works and transportation. 1.0.3 In this standard, soil is only classified into two categories. course-grained soil and fine- grained soil. The designations of soil shall be determined in accordance with the current national standard “ Standard for Classification of Soil” GBJ 145. 1.0.4 The sorting out of soil test data shall be such that by means of assessing the soil mass unit characteristics and the law of their change based on the research on the samples (data measured during the tests), the results of soil tests will serve as accurate and reliable indexes of soil properties for the engineering design and construction. Analysis and sorting out of test results shall be conducted in accordance with Appendix A. 1.0.5 Instruments and equipment used in soil tests shall be in compliance with GB/T 1506
