Introduction

This document is one of a series of standards for the analysis of photographic waste, which includes the field of analysis of ammonia nitrogen content in photographic waste water. This document is intended for individuals with a working knowledge of analytical techniques. Some steps use corrosive, toxic or other hazardous chemicals. place Laboratory safety protocols for physical chemicals require the use of safety glasses or goggles and, in some cases, other protective clothing, Such as rubber gloves, masks or aprons. The safe performance of any chemical procedure always requires that normal precautions have been taken for hazardous materials Specific details are provided. Hazard warnings are designated by letters enclosed in angle brackets "< >". These are defined in Chapter 6 and then in this document use. More detailed information on the hazards, handling and use of these chemicals is available from the manufacturer. Only through chemical analysis can the photography lab determine compliance with emissions regulations. If the photography lab does not comply with emissions regulations If required, an external laboratory should be used. Determination of Ammonia Nitrogen Content in Photography Processing Waste Liquid (micro-diffusion method)

1 Scope

This document describes a method for the determination of ammonia and other volatile amines liberated from photographic processing effluents using strong bases, with results expressed in terms of nitrogen express. This method is applicable to the determination of ammonia mass concentration range of 10mg/L~200mg/L or nitrogen mass concentration range of 8mg/L~ Ammonia concentration in typical photographic processing effluent of 160 mg/L. Other volatile amines are also commonly defaulted to ammonia, but the presence of ammonia in photographic processing waste Concentrations are usually very low.
