1 Scope

This standard stipulates the principle, apparatus and reagents for the method of determining the content of ethylene glycol monoethyl ether insolubles in the offset polymer plate by filtration. Test procedures, calculations and results presentation, and safety precautions. This standard applies to the determination of the content of insolubles in various ethylene glycol monoethyl ether-soluble polymers used in offset printing plates.

3 Methodology

The polymer sample to be tested was fully dissolved in ethylene glycol monoethyl ether, and then filtered with a solvent filter. The pore size of the filter was 0.45 μm. After the oil-soluble filter membrane is fully washed insoluble, the insoluble filter is vacuum-dried to a constant mass, and the filtration membrane before and after filtration is weighed. The mass changes to calculate the content of insolubles in the polymer.

4 Instruments and reagents

4.1 Solvent filters (schematics) See Appendix A. 4.2 Oil-soluble filter membrane. 0.45 μm pore size. 4.3 Glass vacuum dryer. 4.4 Vacuum pump. Vacuum degree is not less than 0.1MPa. 4.5 Electronic Balance. Accuracy 0.1mg. 4.6 electromagnetic stirrer. 4.7 Ethylene glycol monoethyl ether, analytical grade.

5 test steps

5.1 Solvent treatment Place an oil-soluble filter membrane with a pore size of 0.45 μm on the sintered filter of the solvent filter and filter out enough ethylene glycol monoethyl ether. Pour into a clean container for use. 5.2 Drying of Filter Membranes Another oil-soluble filter membrane with a pore size of 0.45 μm was placed in a glass vacuum desiccator, and a vacuum pump was used to pump vacuum at room temperature.
