Nanotechnology Terminology
Part 1.Core Terminology
1 Scope
This part of GB/T 30544 defines the terms and definitions related to the core terms of nanotechnology and aims to promote nanotechnology-related terms
The mutual exchanges between the industry, government organizations, social people and related parties.
2 Terms and Definitions
2.1
nanoscale
in the size range between 1 nm and 100 nm.
NOTE 1 This size range generally, but not exclusively, exhibits properties that cannot be extrapolated from larger sizes. For these characteristics, the upper and lower scale limits are
similar.
Note 2.The purpose of introducing a lower limit (approximately 1 nm) in this definition is to avoid that when a lower limit is not set, single or small clusters of atoms are defaulted to be nano-objects or
Nanostructural units.
2.2
nanoscience
Investigate size- and structure-dependent properties and phenomena occurring at the nanoscale that differ significantly from single atoms, molecules, or bulk materials.
The subject of icons.
2.3
nanotechnology
Nano technology
Apply scientific knowledge to manipulate and control matter at the nanoscale (2.1) to exploit properties that differ significantly from individual atoms, molecules or bulk materials
properties and phenomena related to size and structure.
NOTE. Manipulation and control include material synthesis.
2.4
nanomaterial
A material whose external dimension, internal or surface structure is at the nanoscale (2.1).
Note 1 to entry. This general term includes nano-objects (2.5) and nanostructured materials (2.7).
Note 2.See Engineered Nanomaterials (2.8), Artificial Nanomaterials (2.9) and Associated Nanomaterials (2.10).
2.5
nano-object
Objects with one, two or three external dimensions at the nanoscale (2.1).
NOTE. Generic term used for all nanoscale objects separated from each other.
2.6
nanostructure
One or more parts are interrelated components in the nanoscale (2.1) region.
NOTE. Regions are defined by boundaries that are discontinuous in nature.
2.7
nanostructured material nanostrucutredmaterial
A material having nanostructures (2.6) in the interior or on the surface.
NOTE. This definition does not exclude the possibility that nano-objects (2.5) have internal or surface nanostructures. If the outer dimension(s) are at the nanoscale
(2.1), the term "nano-object" is recommended.
2.8
engineered nanomaterial
Nanomaterials designed for a specific purpose or function (2.4).
2.9
man-made nanomaterial
Nanomaterials (2.4) with specific functions or specific compositions manufactured for commercial purposes.
2.10
incidentalnanomaterial
Nanomaterials unintentionally produced as by-products in a process (2.4).
Note 1 to entry. Processes include manufacturing, biotechnology or other processes.
Note 2.See ISO /T S27628.2007, 2.21 for the definition of "ultrafine particles".
2.11
Nanomanufacturing
Synthesis, production or manipulation of nanomaterials (2.4) for commercial purposes, or manufacture at the nanoscale (2.1)
Build steps.
2.12
nanomanufacturingprocess
Synthesis, production or manipulation of nanomaterials (2.4) for commercial purposes, or manufacture at the nanoscale (2.1)
The entire process of manufacturing steps.
2.13
nanoscale phenomenon
Effects arising from the nano-object (2.5) or nanoscale (2.1) range.
2.14
nanoscale property
Properties possessed by nano-objects (2.5) or in the nanoscale (2.1) range.
