foreword
This document is in accordance with the provisions of GB/T 1.1-2020 "Guidelines for Standardization Work Part 1.Structure and Drafting Rules of Standardization Documents"
drafted.
This document replaces GB/T 19145-2003 "Determination of Total Organic Carbon in Sedimentary Rocks". Compared with GB/T 19145-2003, except for structural
In addition to adjustments and editorial changes, the main technical changes are as follows.
a) Deleted some instruments and equipment (see Chapter 5 of the.2003 edition);
b) Added quality requirements for reagents and materials (see 5.1, 5.2, 5.6, 5.10, 5.15);
c) increased the particle size range of broken samples (see 7.2.1);
d) Changed the sample washing steps (see 7.2.4, 5.4 of the.2003 edition);
e) Added the process of instrument calibration (see 7.3.2);
f) Increased the weighing range of flux (see 7.3.2, 7.3.4, 7.3.5);
g) Changed the measurement precision (see Chapter 8, Chapter 6 of the.2003 edition);
h) Deleted environmental protection requirements (see Chapter 7 of the.2003 edition).

Determination of total organic carbon in sedimentary rocks
1 Scope
This document specifies the analytical procedures and quality requirements for total organic carbon in sedimentary rocks.
This document applies to the determination of total organic carbon in sedimentary rocks and modern sediments.
2 Normative references
There are no normative references in this document.
3 Terms and Definitions
There are no terms and definitions that need to be defined in this document.
4 Principles of the method
After removing the inorganic carbon in the sample with hydrochloric acid, it is burned in a high-temperature oxygen stream to convert the total organic carbon into carbon dioxide, which is detected by an infrared detector.
The total organic carbon content is detected and given.
5 Reagents and Materials
5.1 Hydrochloric acid. analytically pure.
5.2 Distilled water.
5.3 Magnesium perchlorate. analytically pure.
5.4 Alkali asbestos.
5.5 Fiberglass.
5.6 Quartz glass fibers.
5.7 Special cotton for desulfurization.
5.8 Platinum Silicone.
5.9 Iron filing flux. w(C)< 0.002%, w(S)< 0.002%.
5.10 Tungsten particle flux. w(C)< 0.001%, w(S)< 0.001%, particle size 0.35mm~0.83mm.
5.11 Standard sample. the national standard material of various carbon contents.
5.12 Porcelain crucible. special for carbon and sulfur analysis.
5.13 Oxygen. the purity is not less than 99.9%.
5.14 Power gas. compressed air or nitrogen.
5.15 pH paper.
6 Instruments and equipment
6.1 Carbon-sulfur analyzer or carbon analyzer.
