This part of GB/T 17693 prescribes the rules for translating and writing Chinese characters in Laos.
This section applies to writing Lao names in Chinese.

3.1 Place names shall be transliterated.
3.2 The general names of place names shall be freely translated. For common names in Lao, see Appendix A.
