Preface
This document is in accordance with the provisions of GB/T 1.1-2020 "Guidelines for standardization work Part 1.Structure and drafting rules for standardization documents"
Drafting.
This document replaces GB/T 16545-2015 "Corrosion of metals and alloys - Removal of corrosion products from corrosion test specimens" and GB/T 16545-
Compared with.2015, in addition to structural adjustments and editorial changes, the main technical changes are as follows.
--- Added warning (see title);
--- Added terms and definitions (see Chapter 3);
--- Deleted the description that the sample should be lightly brushed before electrolytic cleaning (see 2.3.2 of the.2015 edition);
--- Added the contents of the test report (see Chapter 5).
This document is equivalent to ISO 8407.2021 "Corrosion of metals and alloys — Removal of corrosion products from test specimens".
The following minimal editorial changes have been made to this document.
--- Incorporates the amendments to ISO 8407.2021/Amd1.2025.The outer margins of the clauses involved are indicated by vertical
Double lines (‖) are marked.

Corrosion of metals and alloys
Removal of corrosion products from corrosion specimens
Warning - Personnel Safety Rules. Because of the health and safety hazards involved, solutions used to remove corrosion products should be handled by professionals.
To ensure that the procedures can be carried out correctly, the equipment should be used and maintained by professionals.
1 Scope
This document specifies the method for removing corrosion products formed on corrosion test specimens of metals and alloys in corrosive environments.
NOTE. The term "metal" as used in this document refers to pure metals and alloys.
The method specified in this document aims to remove all corrosion products without substantially damaging the metal matrix. This allows for accurate determination of
The mass loss of metal in a corrosive environment.
This document may also be applicable to metallic coatings in some cases, provided that the possible influence of the substrate is taken into account.
2 Normative references
This document has no normative references.
3 Terms and Definitions
There are no terms or definitions that require definition in this document.
4 Methods
4.1 Overview
4.1.1 It is advisable to first perform light mechanical cleaning, for example, by washing with a soft brush under running water to remove loosely attached or large pieces of corrosion products.
4.1.2 If the process described in 4.1.1 cannot remove all corrosion products, other treatment methods may be used, mainly including the following three methods.
type.
a) chemical method;
b) electrolysis;
c) More intensive mechanical treatments.
NOTE. These treatments will also remove some of the metal matrix.
Whichever method is used, repeated cleaning is required to ensure complete removal of corrosion products. Visual inspection should be used to verify the cleaning results.
For surfaces with pits, corrosion products will accumulate in the pits, and it is advisable to use a low-power microscope (for example. 7×~30×) to inspect the cleaning results.
4.1.3 The ideal treatment method should only remove corrosion products without damaging any metal matrix. Two methods are usually used to determine. one method
One method is to use a comparison sample (see 4.1.4); another method is to clean the corrosion sample multiple times (see 4.1.5).
The rust removal performance of the series of solutions is not impaired and this method should continue to be used.
Note 1.When the solution changes color or contains a large amount of corrosion products, the solution needs to be discarded.
Note 2.Some solutions may require aging before use to avoid corrosion of the substrate.
4.1.4 The same method as that used for the corroded specimen should be used to clean the uncorroded comparison specimen, which should be cleaned in the same manner as the corroded specimen.
