Coating color measurement method
1 Scope
This document describes the basic conditions and measurement methods for measuring the color coordinates of coatings, as well as the quantitative colorimetric evaluation of small color differences between coatings.
Price method.
This document is applicable to the determination of the color of reflected light, that is, coatings that show a uniform color (i.e. monochrome) when inspected by normal vision.
Used to measure coatings that cannot completely cover opaque substrates (belonging to opaque system coatings).
This document is not applicable to the determination of luminous coatings, transparent and translucent coatings (e.g. coatings used on display or lamp glass), reflective coatings
The colour of films (e.g., films used for traffic markings) and metallic films (films containing effect pigments).
Note. There are many formulas for calculating the color difference between two samples based on their color coordinates, but the results calculated by these formulas cannot be completely consistent with the visual results in all cases.
There are two common formulas recommended by the International Commission on Illumination (CIE) in 1976.One of them is the
The prescribed CIE1976 (L*a*b*) color difference formula has been proven to be of practical significance for the chromaticity evaluation of coatings.

3 Terms and Definitions
The terms and definitions defined in GB/T 5698 and the following apply to this document.
3.1
Under specified lighting conditions, within a specified solid angle, the radiant flux or luminous flux Φaλ of wavelength λ reflected from an object is equal to the radiant flux or luminous flux Φaλ of wavelength λ reflected from a completely diffuse object.
The spectral reflectance factor is the ratio of the radiant flux or luminous flux Φnλ of wavelength λ reflected by the reflecting surface. It is expressed as R(λ), see formula (1).
R(λ)=
Φaλ
Φnλ
(1)
Where.
Φaλ---Radiant flux or luminous flux of wavelength λ reflected from an object, in watts (W) or lumens (lm);
Φnλ---The radiant flux or luminous flux of wavelength λ reflected from a completely diffuse reflecting surface, in watts (W) or lumens (lm).
Note. This document specifies that the spectral reflectance factor should be used instead of the CIE spectral radiance factor. Commercial instruments are not suitable for measuring the spectral radiance factor because the reflected light
The dispersion of the line will cause systematic errors.
